Touba, Senegal: police say a man used a woman's photos in fake profiles and AI tools to change his voice on calls to draw people into explicit calls
Senegalese police in Touba said in February 2026 that a man had downloaded photos and videos a woman posted in her WhatsApp status updates and used them to create fake profiles. According to the investigation, he used artificial intelligence tools to transform his voice in real time during audio and video calls so that the female persona was believable, and through it attracted men and women, sent them sexual material and asked them for money or phone credit. The woman, a former in-law of the suspect, had complained on 16 February of a smear campaign and misuse of her images. Police say several victims were heard, that some had their images used for virtual prostitution, and that the suspect confessed after his arrest on 19 February. The police account does not say how investigators established the AI use or which tool it was.

AI system as recorded: Artificial intelligence tools that transformed the suspect's voice in real time during audio and video calls, according to the Touba police investigation (tool not identified)
What Happened
The police account. The Ndamatou/Touba district police station in Senegal said it dismantled a digital criminal operation involving the collection and spread of pornographic material, fraud, blackmail and identity theft. The case began with a complaint filed on 16 February 2026 by a woman who said she was the target of a smear campaign and misuse of her images. Technical investigations identified the suspect, a former in-law of the complainant.
How the scheme worked, according to the investigation. The suspect downloaded photos and videos the woman had posted in her WhatsApp status updates and used them to create fake profiles. To make the female persona believable, he used artificial intelligence tools that changed his voice in real time during audio and video calls. Under this false identity he attracted men and women, sent sexual material and asked for money transfers or phone credit. He was unmasked when he posed as a victim's friend and asked that victim for financial help.
Victims. Police say several victims were interviewed. Some had their images used for virtual prostitution, and others were drawn into explicit video calls before the suspect asked them for money. Police were still working to identify all victims.
Arrest. The suspect was arrested on 19 February 2026 and held in custody for cyber-fraud, blackmail and illicit use of AI. Confronted with the digital evidence, he confessed, and he admitted collecting many compromising images through the scheme.
What is not known. Which AI tool was used, how investigators established its use, how many people were deceived, whether any money was paid and the outcome of the prosecution.
Reported harm
According to the Touba police, a woman's photos and videos were used in fake profiles whose operator used AI tools to change his voice on calls; she complained of a smear campaign and misuse of her images, some victims' images were used for virtual prostitution, and others were drawn into explicit video calls before being asked for money.
Outcome
PendingThe Ndamatou/Touba district police station arrested the suspect on 19 February 2026 and held him in custody for cyber-fraud, blackmail and illicit use of AI. Police say he confessed when confronted with the digital evidence and that the investigation continued to identify all victims. No charge decision or court outcome has been found.
What remains unknown
- Which AI tool was used and how investigators established its use.
- How many people were deceived, whether any of them paid money, and when the scheme began.
- Whether the suspect was charged or tried, and the outcome.
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: reported. The Touba police investigation, relayed by RTS and PressAfrik, says the suspect used artificial intelligence tools to transform his voice in real time during audio and video calls so that a female persona built on the complainant's photos and videos was believable, and that through this persona he attracted men and women, sent them sexual material, drew some into explicit video calls and asked for money. The suspect was held for, among other things, illicit use of AI. The police do not disclose how they established the AI use or which tool it was, and the reported confession concerns collecting the images.

Woman says a classmate sent an AI-undressed image of her to his contacts; he says his account was hacked, and police refused a case pending an examination
A 23-year-old woman told the news site Kaktus.media that in July 2026 she learned that acquaintances had received a nude image of her made with AI from her photograph, and that the sender was a classmate. She says he first told her an app had generated and sent the image by itself, then admitted that he had undressed her Instagram photo through AI himself. In a written statement to the outlet the accused says he used a Telegram bot offering AI photo processing in May or June 2022 and was shocked by the result, and that the images were sent from his Telegram account on the night of 11 to 12 July 2026 by people who had hacked it. The woman says she suffered severe psychological stress and harm to her reputation. She filed a complaint with a district police department on 21 July; after she complained to the prosecutor's office the matter moved to another district department. That department told Kaktus.media that, because the review period expired before expert results arrived, it had refused to open a criminal case and had ordered a new examination. Her lawyer says four motions filed on 5 August have gone unanswered.
Solo and Semarang, Indonesia: a university student's face was composited with AI onto pornographic images and a video by her ex-boyfriend and posted online; the suspect was detained after a nearly seven-month investigation
A female student at a state university in Solo (Surakarta), Central Java, learned on 1 January 2026 from friends that her face had been composited onto pornographic images and a video, which her lawyer said were found on Instagram and Telegram. Her family reported the case to the Central Java regional police cyber directorate on 28 January 2026. Police issued a formal police report on 31 July, arrested her ex-boyfriend, a university student in Semarang, at his boarding house in Gunungpati on 4 August 2026, and detained him. The police spokesman said the suspect used AI to place the complainant's face on another woman's naked body so that she appeared in pornographic content, uploaded it to his X account, did not sell it, and acted out of resentment after an on-and-off relationship ended. He faces charges under Articles 51 and 35 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law and an article printed by two outlets as 'Law No. 1 of 2026', with a maximum of 12 years' imprisonment. Her lawyer said she could not sleep, withdrew, felt shame and at one point lost hope, that his team had found seven women in total allegedly targeted of whom six had not reported, and that the suspect's parents asked for an out-of-court settlement; police said only one complainant was confirmed.
Wyoming plaintiff alleges Grok was used to make about 7,000 AI-generated sexual images and videos from a photograph of the plaintiff as a child
A Wyoming woman who is now an adult and is identified in court filings as Jane Doe 4 alleges that the plaintiff’s stepfather uploaded a photograph of the plaintiff taken in childhood to xAI’s Grok on or before 12 February 2026 and prompted Grok to generate about 7,000 AI-generated sexual images and videos of the plaintiff, and that the stepfather traded them online. The plaintiff joined a proposed class action against xAI in the Northern District of California through an amended complaint filed on 7 July 2026. The complaint alleges that xAI’s report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children around 12 February 2026 did not include the generated images or the IP address of the upload, that investigators obtained a search warrant on or about 27 February 2026 and found the material, and that the accused died two days later, after release on bail. The plaintiff reports severe distress including depression and suicidal thoughts and told the Washington Post about starting therapy. The complaint says the accused was charged with child exploitation offenses while the plaintiff told the Post that the accused was not charged with child pornography offenses. xAI did not respond to the Post and had not answered the complaint in court. The allegations have not been tested in court. The plaintiff and the accused are not named here, and the images are described only by kind.
Tennessee minors v. xAI: three girls say a man one of them knew used an AI app to make nude images and video of them and other minors, at least 19 in all, and traded them online; they sued xAI, and later also Stability AI, over the tool
Three Tennessee girls, two still minors, sued xAI in the Northern District of California on 16 March 2026 over AI-generated nude images and a video made of them as minors. According to the complaint, on or about 6 December 2025 an anonymous Instagram user sent one of them sexual AI images of herself made from her own photos, including her homecoming and yearbook pictures, and a link to a Discord server created by a person she knew, which held images and videos of at least 18 other minor girls, including the two other plaintiffs, many from her school. Local police arrested the man in late December 2025; the other two plaintiffs learned from investigators in February 2026 that he had made nude images of them, and he is alleged to have traded the files on Telegram and Mega. The plaintiffs describe anxiety, sleeplessness, nightmares, self-isolation and needing academic accommodations. Their first complaint said law enforcement linked the app he used to xAI's Grok technology; the July amended complaint says the app relied on Stability AI's tools and names Stability AI as a defendant. The case is at an early stage and no court has ruled on the allegations.
