Her husband, a block-office clerk, told India Today (whose Etawah reporter also wrote the AajTak report) and, separately, India TV that after she returned from a Jaipur assignment the four had been harassing and blackmailing her with AI-made videos and photographs. Civil Lines police seized her phone, held the inquest and post-mortem and said they were verifying the videos; the Times of India reported on 27 July that a case of abetment to suicide had been registered on the husband's complaint and that the alleged main accused, a 30-year-old man, had been arrested on Saturday 25 July and sent to jail while the other three, including the two women, were absconding. ANI (22 July 2026) reported that a 26-year-old make-up artist died by suicide at her rented residence in Vrindavan Colony under the Civil Lines police station area in Etawah, allegedly after prolonged mental harassment by four former work associates, and quoted Circle Officer (Sadar) Avneesh Kumar Singh: on the night of 20 July the police received information that a woman had died by suicide, took custody of the body, began the inquest and post-mortem, and were shown a video by her husband in which she alleged harassment; the police seized her phone and were investigating the video's authenticity and the allegations. India Today (22 July) reported that the 20-year-old beautician sent the video to her husband moments before hanging herself; in it she named two women and two men, said 'These four people are the reason I am hanging myself... They have ruined my home. If I die, they should be imprisoned for life', said the accused had threatened to reveal details of her pre-marriage life to her husband and in-laws, and cleared her husband; 'as per her husband, the harassment also involved AI-generated videos and photographs that were being used to blackmail her'. AajTak (22 July, Hindi; the same Etawah reporter as India Today, so the same chain) reported the husband's account that after she returned from Jaipur her friends were blackmailing her by making videos and photos with AI; India TV (22 July, Hindi; its own report) reported him saying her friends were continually blackmailing her with AI videos and photos (the Hindi sentence can also be read as blackmail 'for making' AI videos and photos), which distressed her; Oneindia (22 July, Hindi) is a rewrite 'according to media reports' that repeats the India Today wording of AI-made fake videos and morphed photographs. The Times of India (27 July) reported that Etawah police arrested a 30-year-old man, the main accused, on Saturday 25 July; that the woman had died by suicide at her home on 21 July; that her husband's FIR named four former acquaintances for allegedly harassing her; that the SHO said the main accused was produced before a court and sent to jail; and that three others, including two women, remained absconding. On 28 May 2026 the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch announced the arrest in north-east Delhi of a 27-year-old man who posts religious discourse videos online. She complained to the Cyber Crime Police Station; an FIR was registered on 6 April 2026 under BNS Sections 78(2) and 356(2) and IT Act Sections 66(C) and 67, and the accused was traced through technical surveillance and arrested under the Branch's "Mission Cyber Rakshika" campaign. The complainant said she was mentally harassed and defamed; the DCP said the images also depicted her maternal aunt. Further investigation was under way; no charge sheet or court outcome was found.

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: a 17-year-old Class 11 student died by hanging at home on 14 May 2026; her family told police that two young men had stalked her and blackmailed her with obscene images made from her social-media photographs with AI tools

On the night of Thursday 14 May 2026 a 17-year-old Class 11 student was found hanging in her room at the family home in Bhopal's Aishbagh area after sending her younger sister out on a pretext; relatives brought her down but she had died. Her family told the Times of India and Dainik Bhaskar that two young men (both from the Chhola area according to the Times of India; one from Chhola and one from her neighbourhood according to Dainik Bhaskar) had harassed her for weeks, stalked her to and from school, pressured her to meet them, and threatened to circulate obscene images of her that they had made with AI tools from photographs taken from her social-media accounts; the family said she had never met them in person; they also told Dainik Bhaskar that she had told her parents, that the men had misbehaved with her father when the family tried to reason with them, and that fear of social defamation had kept them from going to the police earlier. The Aishbagh police station in-charge said an unnatural-death case had been registered, no suicide note was found, the family's statements were being recorded and further action would follow; investigators were expected to examine her phone and social-media accounts. After the post-mortem on 15 May relatives took the body to the police station and demanded action against the accused. No arrest or later development was found in this review.

Indore: a first-year college student complained in May 2026 that a man she met at her sister's wedding edited her photographs with AI into objectionable images after she refused to marry him, blackmailed her with them and, after approaching her fiancé (the reports differ on how), caused her engagement to be broken off; she had been contemplating suicide before confiding in her family (Navbharat Times, Amar Ujala, Patrika, 12-13 May 2026)

Indore police registered an FIR at Banganga police station on a first-year college student's complaint reported on 12 and 13 May 2026. She said she had met the accused, a young man from the Indore area, at her sister's wedding in 2024, where he took some photographs of her; he later pressed her to marry him and, when she refused, threatened to edit her photographs with AI into objectionable (Navbharat Times, Amar Ujala) or obscene (Patrika) images and post them online. Navbharat Times reports that he edited the pictures with AI, blackmailed her with them and, after her family arranged her engagement elsewhere, reached her fiancé and showed him the edited pictures, after which the families quarrelled and the engagement was broken; Patrika says he went to the fiancé's home and intimidated him into breaking the match; Amar Ujala says he also threatened to kill her and her family and sent edited pictures when her family tried to reason with him, and that when her engagement took place about two months earlier he went to her house and made false allegations about her character in front of the prospective fiancé, after which the engagement broke. She went into severe mental distress and, according to Amar Ujala, had resolved to take a suicidal step before telling her family, who took her to the police. The FIR was registered under the IT Act and sections on criminal intimidation and defamation; police were searching for the accused.

Solo and Semarang, Indonesia: a university student's face was composited with AI onto pornographic images and a video by her ex-boyfriend and posted online; the suspect was detained after a nearly seven-month investigation

A female student at a state university in Solo (Surakarta), Central Java, learned on 1 January 2026 from friends that her face had been composited onto pornographic images and a video, which her lawyer said were found on Instagram and Telegram. Her family reported the case to the Central Java regional police cyber directorate on 28 January 2026. Police issued a formal police report on 31 July, arrested her ex-boyfriend, a university student in Semarang, at his boarding house in Gunungpati on 4 August 2026, and detained him. The police spokesman said the suspect used AI to place the complainant's face on another woman's naked body so that she appeared in pornographic content, uploaded it to his X account, did not sell it, and acted out of resentment after an on-and-off relationship ended. He faces charges under Articles 51 and 35 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law and an article printed by two outlets as 'Law No. 1 of 2026', with a maximum of 12 years' imprisonment. Her lawyer said she could not sleep, withdrew, felt shame and at one point lost hope, that his team had found seven women in total allegedly targeted of whom six had not reported, and that the suspect's parents asked for an out-of-court settlement; police said only one complainant was confirmed.
