On 28 May 2026 the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch announced the arrest in north-east Delhi of a 27-year-old man who posts religious discourse videos online. Police allege that after meeting a young Ahmedabad woman with a public social-media profile through religious conversations on Instagram and being refused friendship, he stalked her online from December 2025 to April 2026, created fake accounts in her name (three Instagram accounts and a YouTube channel at first; eight to ten across X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube were found on his phone), downloaded photographs of her and her mother, used websites found by searching "AI remove clothes" to generate morphed obscene images and videos of the two women, and posted them with obscene captions to damage her reputation; investigators say more than 100 AI-morphed images of the complainant were found. Officers told ThePrint and ANI that she had confided in him about the accounts and that he told her to keep quiet and claimed to be reporting the accounts and getting hers reinstated. She complained to the Cyber Crime Police Station; an FIR was registered on 6 April 2026 under BNS Sections 78(2) and 356(2) and IT Act Sections 66(C) and 67, and the accused was traced through technical surveillance and arrested under the Branch's "Mission Cyber Rakshika" campaign. The complainant said she was mentally harassed and defamed; the DCP said the images also depicted her maternal aunt. Further investigation was under way; no charge sheet or court outcome was found.

What Happened

The Cyber Crime Branch statement, as quoted by the Indian Express, says the accused contacted the complainant through Instagram and engaged in religious conversations, asked her to develop a friendship, and after she refused stalked her online and created three fake Instagram IDs and a YouTube channel in her name using her photograph as the profile picture; he downloaded photographs of the complainant and her mother from her Instagram account, searched "AI Remove Clothes" on Google, uploaded the photographs to various websites, created morphed nude photographs and videos with AI tools and posted them on the fake IDs with obscene text. The Times of India, ETV Bharat and the IANS copy report the same statement: the period December 2025 to April 2026, eight to ten fake accounts across X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube found in forensic examination of his phone, and more than 100 AI-morphed images made with various online tools. The Indian Express gives the FIR date (6 April) and says the accused was apprehended at his Delhi home a month and a half later; NDTV and Haribhoomi say the arrest was on Wednesday 27 May, and police announced it on Thursday 28 May. India Today quotes the Branch ACP that the complainant, described as a social-media influencer, reported fake Instagram accounts and over 100 AI-generated nude photos and videos of her and her mother, and that the posts caused deep mental trauma and public humiliation to both. ANI's report of the DCP's briefing on 29 May adds that the images also depicted the woman's maternal aunt, that the accused kept contacting her assuring her he would get her account reinstated, and that this went on for five to six months. ThePrint, quoting a senior Cyber Crime officer, reports that the woman had first found the fake accounts in December 2025 and confided in the accused, whom she knew as an Instagram friend posting yoga and devotional videos, and that he told her not to speak to anyone and claimed to be reporting the accounts; it gives her age as 21 where the Indian Express says 24. The accused is named in all reports; he is described here by age and city because the case has not been tried. The historical record dated the incident to the arrest announcement (28 May 2026); the harassment period is used here instead.
