Ahmedabad Woman AI-Morphed Image Harassment Campaign (India)

In May 2026, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch arrested a Delhi man for a months-long AI image-abuse campaign against an Ahmedabad woman — a social-media influencer — and her mother.

According to police and reporting, the accused first approached the victim on Instagram under the pretext of religious/spiritual discussions. After she rejected his romantic and friendship advances, he retaliated with a sustained harassment campaign.

He created 8-10 fake social-media accounts in the victim's name and used AI morphing tools to generate more than 100 obscene images and videos of the victim and her mother, drawn from photos on their social media. He uploaded the material — with objectionable captions intended to damage their reputation — to fake profiles across Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube.

In a further layer of manipulation, when the victim discovered the fake accounts, the accused posed as a sympathetic 'helpful friend,' falsely claiming he was blocking the offending accounts, so that she would confide in him without realising he was the perpetrator.

Police (led by Inspector M.H. Bhetariya) traced him through technical surveillance and human intelligence and arrested him. He was charged under BNS Sections 78(2) and 356(2) and IT Act Sections 66(C) and 67, with forensic examination of his devices underway.

AI morphing tools let a perpetrator mass-produce convincing non-consensual obscene imagery of a woman and her mother from public photos, then weaponise it across multiple platforms to defame and torment them over months. The scale (100+ images, 8-10 fake accounts), the targeting of a second victim (the mother), and the deception of the victim into trusting the perpetrator compounded the psychological harm.

This is third-party harm facilitation combined with direct psychological manipulation: the AI user was the offender, the depicted women were the victims, and the offender additionally manipulated the primary victim's trust.
