Chile: students at a Puente Alto secondary school find AI-made fake nude images of female classmates; the school suspends the students involved and the Education Superintendency confirms a formal investigation of the school

Teletrece reported on 3 October 2026 that on 10 July 2026 female students at a secondary school in Puente Alto, Chile, found fake sexual images of themselves and other students on a classmate's phone. Families say the images were made with AI tools from ordinary photos the girls had posted on Instagram, that four students took part in obtaining, editing and circulating them, and that the material reached other students. Some of the girls had panic attacks, according to their parents. The school suspended the students identified as responsible for 15 days; after their return, parents say, they mocked the girls, a fight followed, and a parent accuses the father of one of the students involved of threats and of loitering near the school, after which she says they filed reports with the PDI. The Superintendencia de Educación confirmed a formal investigation of the school.

AI system as recorded: Unnamed AI tools used to alter students' social-media photos into fake nude images (per families' account to Teletrece)

What Happened

Reportajes Teletrece (T13, 3 October 2026) reconstructs the case from families' accounts. Ordinary photos that some female students had posted on their own Instagram profiles were taken and altered with AI tools into false depictions of them naked; the material was gathered for distribution, shared through digital platforms and reached other students. Families say four students took part, from collecting the photos to circulating the material. The case came to light on 10 July 2026 when students found the material in the photo gallery of one of the involved students' phones; one mother describes her daughter calling her in tears. The affected girls were in primero to cuarto medio. Parents say some of the girls had panic attacks. The school suspended the students identified as responsible for 15 days. On their return, according to a parent, they mocked the affected girls at the first break and three of the girls hit them; the parent says the father of one of the students involved then threatened the girls, loitered near the school and posted a threatening WhatsApp status, and that families filed reports with the PDI. Families criticise the school for giving little information or support and for stressing that the images were fake. The Superintendencia de Educación confirmed it has opened a formal investigation into the school. The school's management and the parents' and students' associations did not respond to Teletrece.

Reported harm

AI-made fake nude images of female secondary-school students circulated among their schoolmates; parents report panic attacks, and the case led to suspensions, a physical fight, threats and a regulator's investigation of the school (families via Teletrece).

Outcome

Ongoing

The school suspended the students identified as responsible for 15 days. The Superintendencia de Educación confirmed a formal investigation of the school and said it gave the case maximum priority. A parent says they had to file reports with the PDI (investigative police) because the father of one of the students involved, whom she accuses of threats, was loitering near the school. Teletrece does not report any criminal complaint over the images themselves; the school's management did not answer Teletrece.

What remains unknown

  • When the images were made and first shared; 10 July 2026 is the date students found them.
  • Which AI tool was used.
  • How many students were depicted.
  • Whether a criminal complaint was filed over the images themselves, and any prosecutor action.
  • The outcome of the Superintendency's investigation.

Cookeville, Tennessee: two high-school students were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after the sheriff's office said they used an AI program to turn photographs, including those of female classmates, into sexually explicit images and posted them; the mother of one depicted girl says her daughter shut herself in her room and stopped talking to friends

On 31 August 2026 the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was told of possible sharing of sexually explicit images at Cookeville High School. Detectives found that two male teenage students had used an artificial-intelligence program to turn photographs obtained online, in some cases photographs of fellow female students, into sexually explicit images, and had shared them; explicit images already stored on one phone were also shared. Both juveniles were taken to the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, the other with two counts of each. The district attorney told NewsChannel 5 on 21 September that the two would be prosecuted in juvenile court. The mother of one of the depicted girls told the station the episode was very hard on her daughter, who had made no naked photographs herself, locked herself in her room and would not talk to her, to anybody or to her friends. The sheriff's-office account and the school system's statement were carried by WZTV, WSMV and 3B Media News on 1-2 September; NewsChannel 5 added its own interviews with the sheriff, the district attorney and the mother on 21 September. The tool is not named. The juveniles are not named in any report.

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: a 17-year-old Class 11 student died by hanging at home on 14 May 2026; her family told police that two young men had stalked her and blackmailed her with obscene images made from her social-media photographs with AI tools

On the night of Thursday 14 May 2026 a 17-year-old Class 11 student was found hanging in her room at the family home in Bhopal's Aishbagh area after sending her younger sister out on a pretext; relatives brought her down but she had died. Her family told the Times of India and Dainik Bhaskar that two young men (both from the Chhola area according to the Times of India; one from Chhola and one from her neighbourhood according to Dainik Bhaskar) had harassed her for weeks, stalked her to and from school, pressured her to meet them, and threatened to circulate obscene images of her that they had made with AI tools from photographs taken from her social-media accounts; the family said she had never met them in person; they also told Dainik Bhaskar that she had told her parents, that the men had misbehaved with her father when the family tried to reason with them, and that fear of social defamation had kept them from going to the police earlier. The Aishbagh police station in-charge said an unnatural-death case had been registered, no suicide note was found, the family's statements were being recorded and further action would follow; investigators were expected to examine her phone and social-media accounts. After the post-mortem on 15 May relatives took the body to the police station and demanded action against the accused. No arrest or later development was found in this review.

Edmonton: two 14-year-old junior high students charged with making and possessing child sexual exploitation materials and voyeurism after police allege they used AI software to sexualise photos of female classmates taken at school without consent and from social media

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation unit announced on 17 June 2026 that two 14-year-old boys at an Edmonton junior high school had been charged on 1 June with making and possessing child sexual exploitation materials and voyeurism. Police allege the boys took photos of girls at their school without consent and from the girls' social media accounts and used AI software to sexualise them; several students were identified as victims and police said the number could be more than ten pending forensic review. A teacher reported the matter to police in late March 2026 after students complained. Police said the evidence so far indicates the images were shared between the two boys rather than more widely, but that word of their existence spread through the school. The lead investigator said the girls were left with intense shame and embarrassment and that some are now too scared to post on social media. The software has not been identified; the school and the accused are not named to protect the victims. CBC, Global News, CTV News and The Canadian Press covered the release and news conference.

Seoul: doctoral student sentenced to 18 months for 1,141 AI-manipulated sexual images of seven laboratory colleagues

On 10 September 2026 the Seoul Northern District Court sentenced a 30-year-old Chinese national doctoral student to 18 months in prison for habitually producing manipulated sexual images of seven women who worked in his university research laboratory. Investigators found 1,141 files made over about six months from November 2025, and search records for ways to bypass the safeguards of the generative AI Grok; the court found no evidence of distribution. A lawyer for five of the victims said they continued to suffer fear, trauma and distress. Prosecutors had sought three years and public disclosure of his identity, which the court declined.
