AI system as recorded: Artificial intelligence technology, not identified, which according to the complaint reported by MCMC was misused on social media to produce and spread sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a school in Kedah

What Happened

The complaint. In a statement dated 8 October 2026, reported by Malaysia Tribune (Cyberjaya dateline) and The Malaysia Press (Putrajaya dateline), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it had received a complaint about the misuse of artificial intelligence technology on social media to produce and spread sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a school in Kedah (translation by the research agent, an AI).

Response. MCMC said the matter involves several agencies, including the Ministry of Communications, the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Education and the Royal Malaysia Police, and that it would cooperate with them in the investigation. It said that misusing AI to produce or spread sexual content that could affect the safety, dignity and well-being of victims, especially children, can be acted on under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, with a fine of up to RM500,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment, or both, and up to five years’ imprisonment for offences against children, and that licensed service providers have child-protection duties under Section 18 of the Online Safety Act 2025. It asked the public not to produce, upload or reshare sexual content involving or alleged to involve children, saying this could harm the victims and hinder the investigation.

Limits of the record. Neither outlet describes the material, names the school, says how many people are depicted or how old they are, identifies the tool or the person responsible, or reports any statement from the school, the teacher or the families. The date on which the material was made and shared is not stated.

Reported harm

According to a complaint reported by MCMC, AI-made sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a Kedah school were produced and spread on social media; MCMC says such content can affect the safety, dignity and well-being of victims, especially children. No individual consequence is reported and the complaint has not been verified.

How Harm Occurred

According to the complaint reported by MCMC, AI technology was used to produce sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a Kedah school, and the material was spread on social media; the alleged non-consensual sexual material and its circulation are the reported harm.

Outcome

Ongoing

MCMC says it received the complaint and will cooperate in the investigation with the Ministry of Communications, the Home Ministry (KDN), the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), each within its jurisdiction. It cites Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (fine up to RM500,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment, or both; up to five years for offences against children) and licensed providers’ child-protection duties under Section 18 of the Online Safety Act 2025. No arrest or charge is reported.

What remains unknown

  • Who is depicted, how many people, and their ages; MCMC refers to teachers and pupils of one school and, generally, to children.
  • Which AI tool was used, what the images and videos show, who produced and spread them, and on which platform.
  • When the material was made and shared; the only date is the 8 October 2026 statement.
  • Whether the complaint has been verified, any arrest or charge, and any account from the school, the teacher or the families.
  • Whether the teachers and pupils are depicted in the material or otherwise involved: the Malay reports say the material is alleged to involve (“didakwa melibatkan”) them, and The Star’s English report renders this as “allegedly of” them.

What the evidence supports

AI involvement: reported. MCMC’s statement, reported in Malay by Malaysia Tribune and The Malaysia Press and in English (Bernama) by The Star, says the complaint concerns the misuse of artificial intelligence technology to produce and spread sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a school in Kedah. MCMC refers to the people affected as victims, particularly children, and warns against resharing sexual content involving or alleged to involve children; The Star renders the allegation as images and videos “allegedly of students and teachers”. On that description the AI-produced material depicts those people (depicted_or_impersonated) and is itself the reported harm, a non-consensual sexual depiction circulated on social media; whether every teacher and pupil the complaint refers to is depicted is not stated. The identification of AI comes from the complaint as relayed by the regulator; no outlet examined the material or identified the tool, so the status is reported.

3 claims: 3 reported. What the statuses mean

Reported MCMC says it received a complaint about the misuse of AI technology on social media to produce and spread sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a school in Kedah.

Causal attribution. The complaint alleges AI production; MCMC relays the allegation and neither outlet examined the material.

Reviewed for publication 2026-10-09: Published as a core case (depicted_or_impersonated) on two Malay-language reports and one English (Bernama) report of a regulator’s statement that it received a complaint of AI being used to produce and spread sexual images and videos alleged to involve teachers and pupils of a Kedah school. Every claim is attributed to MCMC’s statement; the three outlets relay one statement and are recorded as one independence group, so nothing is corroborated. No person or school is named by any source. Severity is low because the complaint is unverified and no individual consequence beyond the alleged depiction is reported.

People described

Teachers and pupils of a school in Kedah, Malaysia, whom a complaint reported by MCMC alleges to be involved in AI-made sexual images and videos; The Star’s English report of the same statement renders this as images and videos “allegedly of students and teachers”. Their number, ages and the content of the material are not described; MCMC refers generally to victims and to children.

People reported harmed in this case

Not reliably quantifiable from the sources

No reliable count: the statement says the material is alleged to involve “guru dan pelajar” (teachers and pupils) of one school without giving a number; Malay does not mark number and the Bernama English reports say “students and teachers”, so no numeric minimum is recorded. Zero placeholders are used; the people depicted are not AI users.

Solo and Semarang, Indonesia: a university student's face was composited with AI onto pornographic images and a video by her ex-boyfriend and posted online; the suspect was detained after a nearly seven-month investigation

A female student at a state university in Solo (Surakarta), Central Java, learned on 1 January 2026 from friends that her face had been composited onto pornographic images and a video, which her lawyer said were found on Instagram and Telegram. Her family reported the case to the Central Java regional police cyber directorate on 28 January 2026. Police issued a formal police report on 31 July, arrested her ex-boyfriend, a university student in Semarang, at his boarding house in Gunungpati on 4 August 2026, and detained him. The police spokesman said the suspect used AI to place the complainant's face on another woman's naked body so that she appeared in pornographic content, uploaded it to his X account, did not sell it, and acted out of resentment after an on-and-off relationship ended. He faces charges under Articles 51 and 35 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law and an article printed by two outlets as 'Law No. 1 of 2026', with a maximum of 12 years' imprisonment. Her lawyer said she could not sleep, withdrew, felt shame and at one point lost hope, that his team had found seven women in total allegedly targeted of whom six had not reported, and that the suspect's parents asked for an out-of-court settlement; police said only one complainant was confirmed.

Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, Indonesia: photographs of private-school pupils taken from social media were turned into AI pornographic images and videos, reportedly since 2025; three pupils have filed a joint police report, the victims' lawyer says hundreds were affected, and two former pupils are named as suspects

Bogor Regency police confirmed on 18 September 2026 that they are investigating a report that pupils of a private school in Cileungsi had their faces edited with artificial intelligence into pornographic content. The head of the women-and-children unit told Kumparan that so far three pupils had reported in a single police report, that the case began when a victim heard from a friend that someone was making content with their face using AI technology, and that investigators were still establishing who made the content and which program was used, under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law. A lawyer for the witnesses, quoted by Pojok Bogor and Uzone, says the victims number in the hundreds; that two former pupils, one as initiator and one as maker, have been reported and admitted the acts to witnesses; that police found thousands of suspected AI-manipulated photos and videos on a suspect's phone, some uploaded to websites including an online-gambling site; and that the case, reported on 19 May 2026, is believed to have run since 2025 while all involved were still pupils, some victims now being university students. Police say the case is at an early stage and asked the public not to draw conclusions.

Ribera Alta, Valencia: a 17-year-old was investigated for making AI-generated nude images and videos of 16 schoolmates, impersonating a girl on fake accounts and advertising the images for sale

In December 2024 a female student in the Ribera Alta area of Valencia province reported to the Guardia Civil that a social-media account had been created in her name featuring an AI-generated video, and later a second account in her name, other accounts showing AI-generated nude videos, and a webpage advertising the images for commercial purposes; the Guardia Civil said the photos, all of minors, had been manipulated so that the people in them appeared completely naked. After 15 other minors came forward with similar complaints, officers traced IP addresses and account emails to the home of a 17-year-old schoolmate, who is being investigated on suspicion of corrupting minors under a Valencia youth court. The Guardia Civil announced the investigation on 27 July 2025.
