Cumberland, Rhode Island: a woman's lawsuit, as relayed by the ACLU of Rhode Island, says police falsely arrested her after concluding that a Flock camera photograph of a fleeing driver matched her license photo; the ACLU dates the arrest to 2025 and asked the town to cancel its Flock contract
The ACLU of Rhode Island reported in August 2026 on a federal lawsuit filed in June by a woman who says Cumberland police falsely arrested her. According to the lawsuit as the ACLU describes it, an officer saw a car turn without signalling and a short chase followed. Officers then used Facebook to identify a person they believed was the driver. A police officer's report from March 2025, quoted in the ACLU's letter, says a sergeant captured a photograph from a Flock camera of the driver during the pursuit and that the photograph matched the woman's license photo. The lawsuit says that identification was wrong. The ACLU said the report shows the town's Flock license plate cameras also photograph drivers and passengers, which it says was not disclosed when the cameras were approved in 2024. On 7 August 2026 it asked the Town Council to cancel the Flock contract.
