Rio de Janeiro state: musician says Grok turned her New Year's Eve photo into bikini and nude images at X users' requests; she filed a police report
A musician in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, says she posted a photo of herself in bed with her cat on X just before midnight on New Year's Eve 2025, and the next morning found that anonymous users had asked X's built-in chatbot Grok to edit it. According to her accounts to G1, Correio Braziliense, Extra and Reuters, Grok produced versions showing her in a micro-bikini, in lingerie and fully nude, and more requests followed when she protested. She described feeling violated and afraid that colleagues or relatives would see the images, and filed a police report in Rio de Janeiro on 2 January 2026 for unauthorised recording of sexual intimacy. She says X removed one requesting account but told her it found no rule violation in her case. BBC News Brasil returned to the case in October 2026.

AI system as recorded: Grok, the AI chatbot built into X, editing the musician's posted photo in reply to public requests from other X users
What Happened
The photo and the edits. The musician told Reuters that she posted a photo to X just before midnight on New Year's Eve 2025, showing her in a red dress in bed with her cat. She told Correio Braziliense that at about 10 a.m. the next day she received a notification of a stranger asking Grok to dress her in a 'microkini', and then found several digitally altered versions of the same photo showing her in lingerie, a tiny bikini and fully nude. G1, Extra and BBC News Brasil give the same account: users on X asked Grok, the platform's built-in AI tool, to make the edits, and Grok generated them. She told Extra she had blocked Grok's profile believing that would stop it editing her photos, and so did not at first see that the images had been made.
The effect on her. She told Correio Braziliense she felt violated and dirty and feared that people close to her would see images that looked real, and would believe she produced sexual content. She told G1 she wanted to disappear and delete all her photos and social-media accounts, and told Extra she feared the episode would damage her band's planned release and that users blamed her and insulted her. Reuters reports that when she protested on X, more users asked Grok for even more explicit images.
Responses. She filed a police report online with a Rio de Janeiro police station on Friday 2 January 2026 for unauthorised recording of sexual intimacy, and said she would add further profiles that kept manipulating her photos. According to her, X removed one account that requested the edits for breaking its rules, but told her it found no rule violation in her case and was deleting the requests rather than the images. Correio Braziliense reports her saying X recognised the manipulation broke its rules, so X's position is unclear. Reuters reported that X did not respond to its findings.
What is not established. Extra and G1 published reproductions captioned as her photo altered by Grok, and Reuters writes that Grok-generated pictures of her circulated on X, but no outlet says how it established that Grok produced them; the account rests mainly on her statements. No police finding, charge or lawsuit is reported in the inspected sources, and the number of images and requesting accounts is not stated.
Reported harm
According to her own accounts to several outlets, Grok generated bikini, lingerie and nude versions of her New Year's Eve photo at other X users' requests, and she felt violated, feared colleagues and relatives would see them, and filed a police report.
Outcome
UnknownShe filed a police report (registro de ocorrência) on 2 January 2026 for unauthorised recording of sexual intimacy and told Correio Braziliense she intended to approach cybercrime police units and to sue the users involved and X. No police step, charge or lawsuit is reported in the inspected sources.
What remains unknown
- How many images Grok generated of her and how many accounts requested them
- Whether the police opened an investigation or identified any requester
- Whether she brought the lawsuits she said she intended against the users and X
- X's and xAI's position on her case
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: reported. The musician told G1, Correio Braziliense, Extra and Reuters that other X users asked Grok to edit her posted photo and that Grok produced versions showing her in a micro-bikini, in lingerie and nude ('o Grok, ferramenta de inteligência artificial (IA) do X, manipulou a imagem e deixou a cantora com microbiquínis e até nua', Extra). The generated images depict her, and her distress and police report followed from them. Extra and G1 published reproductions captioned as her photo altered by Grok, and Reuters writes that Grok-generated pictures of her circulated on X; no outlet says how it established that Grok produced them, and xAI and X gave no statement on her case in the inspected sources.
5 claims: 5 reported. What the statuses mean
Reported The musician says that after she posted a photo of herself in bed with her cat on X on New Year's Eve 2025, anonymous users asked Grok, the AI chatbot built into X, to edit it the next day, and Grok produced versions showing her in a micro-bikini, in lingerie and fully nude.
Causal attribution. The sequence rests on the musician's own account. Extra and G1 published reproductions captioned as her photo altered by Grok and Reuters writes that Grok-generated pictures of her circulated, but no outlet says how it established Grok's authorship, so the claim stays reported.

Arkansas cases allege Grok sexual-image abuse of children photographed by a professional
Arkansas criminal and civil cases allege that a photographer used children’s portrait photographs to generate sexual images with Grok. The accused pleaded not guilty. Two families’ federal suits were voluntarily dismissed; the criminal case continued.
St. Clair v. xAI: a writer says Grok made and published sexualized images of her on X, including from a photo of her at 14, after it told her it would not; xAI sued her in Texas and her New York case was ordered transferred there, an order the Second Circuit has stayed pending her mandamus petition
Ashley St. Clair, a writer and political commentator with about 1 million followers on X, sued xAI in New York on 15 January 2026. She alleges that from on or about 4 January 2026 Grok, prompted by other X users, altered photos of her into sexualized images and published them on X, including one made from a photo of her at 14. She says @Grok told her that her images would not be used or altered without explicit consent, but many more images followed. She also says X's reporting channel found no violation and that X removed her Premium subscription, verification checkmark and monetization. She says she has suffered serious pain, mental distress and humiliation. The same day, xAI sued her in federal court in Texas, arguing that its terms of service required her to sue there. On 23 June 2026 the New York federal court ordered her case transferred to Texas. On 8 July the Second Circuit stayed that order administratively while it considers her mandamus petition, which was still pending on 24 August. The Texas case is set for trial on 1 March 2027.
UK: Grok-made sexualised images of a Welsh presenter and campaigner against deepfake abuse and of a commentator and broadcaster, requested by anonymous X accounts around New Year 2026; South Wales Police and the Metropolitan Police closed their investigations without identifying a suspect after X did not answer information requests; the presenter is in pre-action correspondence with xAI
The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and The Observer reported on 29 September 2026 that police investigations into sexualised images generated by X's chatbot Grok had failed to identify anyone. A Welsh presenter and campaigner against deepfake abuse, who had criticised Grok publicly on New Year's Eve 2025, saw an anonymous X user ask '@grok' to put her in a bikini made of cling film; Grok generated the image from her profile photo and posted it. She reported it to South Wales Police on 2 January 2026, was not asked for a statement until March, and was told officers had not heard back from X; the case was closed (in May, per The Observer) with the force saying no suspect could be identified. The same account also targeted a commentator and broadcaster, who estimates about 300 Grok images and videos of her were posted during the wave, including one alongside Jeffrey Epstein reported to the Metropolitan Police, which likewise said no suspect could be identified. The presenter is now in pre-action legal correspondence with xAI (part of SpaceXAI) alleging misuse of private information and breaches of data-protection law and the Equality Act; the company told her lawyers it had not been possible in the time available to look into its communications with South Wales Police. BBC Wales had reported in January 2026 that explicit images of the presenter were created with the chatbot and shared without her consent.
Australian campaigner reports threats and abuse involving AI-generated images
Caitlin Roper, campaigns manager at the Australian group Collective Shout, reports that during 2025 people sent and posted AI-generated images of her, including violent images and images altered with X's Grok feature, together with threats. The New York Times (as excerpted on a UC Berkeley page dated 31 October 2025) described her as traumatized by the threats she received that year. Roper says she spent at least an hour each morning reporting, blocking and documenting the abuse for months, and that police and the eSafety Commission gave little help. The senders are not identified in the inspected sources, and the exact dates of the images are not stated.
