New Orleans: former school teacher charged with 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes; investigators say an AI platform turned social-media photos into sexual images

Louisiana's Attorney General announced on 2 April 2026 that a former New Orleans school teacher and coach, already in custody since 8 January 2026 on child sexual abuse material charges, had been rearrested on 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes. According to court records reported by Fox 8, investigators from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation say the former teacher obtained photographs that account owners had posted on social media, placed them into an online artificial intelligence platform and obtained AI-generated sexual images of the females with their faces unchanged, including collages and images of the same females at various stages of life; the females appear to be from the New Orleans metro area. Prosecutors said the images were made from teenage girls' Instagram posts, while the school emailed parents that it did not know who the depicted girls were. A grand jury indicted the former teacher on 27 May 2026 on 102 counts including 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes of minors. The number and identities of the depicted people are not reported, no source dates the creation of the images, and the charges are untested in court.

AI system as recorded: Online artificial intelligence platform, not identified, into which investigators say social-media photographs were placed to obtain AI-generated sexual images of the depicted females

What Happened

The allegation. According to court records obtained by Fox 8 (2 April 2026), investigators from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation say that numerous images on the former teacher's devices appeared to have been obtained from social media accounts whose owners had innocently posted pictures of their activities. The documents say the images were placed into an online artificial intelligence platform where they could be altered, and that the accused then obtained AI-generated sexual images of the females with their faces as in the original posts, including collages and numerous images of the same females at various stages of life. Investigators say the females appear to be from the New Orleans metro area. Numerous Instagram postings of what appear to be unknown teenage females were found on a school-issued computer.

Who is depicted. The sources conflict. KPLC reported prosecutors saying the images were made from teenage girls' Instagram posts and the Attorney General's office saying the charges stem from deepfakes made from photos of the accused's students; the school emailed parents that it did not know who the girls pictured were, and Fox 8's court-record account says only that the females appear to be from the New Orleans area. The indictment names the deepfake counts as unlawful deepfakes of minors. No depicted person is identified in any source and no count of depicted people is reported.

Custody and charges. The former teacher was first arrested on 8 January 2026 on 22 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material after a tip, rearrested on 21 January on three further counts and on 23 March on 17 counts of video voyeurism of a child (photographs of students in a classroom, not described as AI-altered), and has remained in custody since 8 January. The 60 unlawful-deepfake counts were added on 1 April 2026. On 27 May 2026 a special grand jury indicted the accused on 102 counts. The accused is presumed innocent; the defence attorney said the bond was exorbitant and that the state had not yet provided evidence.

Dates. No source states when the AI-generated images were made. The accused has been in custody since 8 January 2026, so the alleged creation falls on or before that date.

Reported harm

According to investigators' court records and prosecutors as reported by Fox 8 and KPLC, females whose photographs were posted on social media were depicted in AI-generated sexual images, including collages; the indictment counts describe them as minors. Whether any image was distributed or any depicted person knows is not reported.

Outcome

Ongoing

The Attorney General's office announced the arrest on 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes (La. R.S. 14:73.13) on 2 April 2026; a bond commissioner set bond at $75,000 per count on 2 April. On 27 May 2026 an Orleans Parish special grand jury indicted the former teacher on 102 counts, including 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes of minors, 25 child sexual abuse material counts and 17 video voyeurism counts; the accused is held without bond and the arraignment date was not reported. The defence attorney called the bond exorbitant and declined to comment on the allegations.

What remains unknown

  • When any AI-generated image was made; the accused has been in custody since 8 January 2026, so the alleged creation falls on or before that date, and no filing dating it was found.
  • How many people are depicted, who they are, whether any are the accused's students (prosecutors and the Attorney General's office say students or teenage girls; the school says it did not know who they were), and whether any depicted person has been told.
  • Which AI platform was used, and whether any image was shared or distributed; no source says so.
  • The outcome of the charges; the arraignment date was unreported as of 27 May 2026 and the accused is presumed innocent.

What the evidence supports

AI involvement: reported. Court records reported by Fox 8 say investigators found that images obtained from social media accounts were placed into an online artificial intelligence platform and that the accused then obtained AI-generated sexual images of the females with their faces unchanged, including collages; KPLC reports prosecutors saying the deepfakes were AI-generated images made from teenage girls' Instagram posts. The AI-generated images are the alleged offence (60 counts of unlawful deepfakes) and depict the females (depicted_or_impersonated). The platform is not identified, no image or filing was inspected by the research agent, and the allegations are investigators' and prosecutors' statements untested at trial.

Reviewed for publication 2026-10-08: Published as a core case on investigators' court records reported by Fox 8, prosecutors' statements reported by KPLC and the Attorney General's release: an online AI platform was allegedly used to turn females' social-media photographs into sexual images, the accused was charged with 60 counts of unlawful deepfakes and indicted on counts naming the depicted people as minors. The conduct claims are reported and the conflicting accounts of who is depicted are preserved. The accused, the school and the depicted people are not named; no image content beyond AI-generated sexual images is described; the event date is unknown.

People described

Females, described by prosecutors as teenage girls and by the indictment counts as minors, whose social-media photographs were allegedly turned into AI-generated sexual images; number and identities not reported, none named

People reported harmed in this case

Not reliably quantifiable from the sources

No source counts the depicted people: the records speak of numerous images of the same females and of 60 counts, which count charges rather than people, so both numeric fields are zero placeholders. The students in the separate video-voyeurism counts are not AI-related and are not counted. The accused used the tool, so no participant user is a harmed person.

Henderson, Kentucky: police identified AI-generated nude images of two middle-school children on a device after a report that such images were being created and shown to other students at South Middle School; a juvenile was lodged at the juvenile detention centre on charges of distributing sexually explicit images without consent and possessing and distributing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor

Henderson Police said that on 'last Thursday' (17 September 2026) they received a report that AI-generated nude images of children were being created and shown to other students at South Middle School in Henderson, Kentucky. During the investigation officers found and identified AI-generated photographs of two minor victims on a digital device. A juvenile accused of sharing the images was lodged at the Juvenile Detention Center on three charge types: distribution of sexually explicit images without consent; two counts of possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over 12 and under 18; and distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over 12 and under 18. The school said on Monday 21 September that it was aware of a situation involving a student allegedly misusing artificial intelligence and inappropriate images, that the police investigation was active and that it had remained in communication with the families involved. 14 News (WFIE) reported the case on 21 September; WKYT carried the same report. The tool is not named. The depicted children's exact ages are not reported, though the charge descriptors put them between 12 and 18. Cookeville, Tennessee: two high-school students were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after the sheriff's office said they used an AI program to turn photographs, including those of female classmates, into sexually explicit images and posted them; the mother of one depicted girl says her daughter shut herself in her room and stopped talking to friends

On 31 August 2026 the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was told of possible sharing of sexually explicit images at Cookeville High School. Detectives found that two male teenage students had used an artificial-intelligence program to turn photographs obtained online, in some cases photographs of fellow female students, into sexually explicit images, and had shared them; explicit images already stored on one phone were also shared. Both juveniles were taken to the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, the other with two counts of each. The district attorney told NewsChannel 5 on 21 September that the two would be prosecuted in juvenile court. The mother of one of the depicted girls told the station the episode was very hard on her daughter, who had made no naked photographs herself, locked herself in her room and would not talk to her, to anybody or to her friends. The sheriff's-office account and the school system's statement were carried by WZTV, WSMV and 3B Media News on 1-2 September; NewsChannel 5 added its own interviews with the sheriff, the district attorney and the mother on 21 September. The tool is not named. The juveniles are not named in any report.
