Lévis, Quebec: about ten pupils suspended after school says AI-altered photos of staff, one reportedly showing a gun to a staff member's head, circulated online
About ten pupils at a secondary school in Lévis, Quebec, were suspended for up to three days in October 2026 after photos of school staff altered with artificial intelligence circulated between 18 and 21 October in a private messaging group bearing the school's name, according to the Centre de services scolaire des Navigateurs (CSSDN). The CSSDN said the material breached school rules against offensive, defamatory, hateful or violent images. The president of Quebec's school administrators' association, citing the school, said most images were silly but one violent fake showed a staff member with a gun to the head. Pupils who felt uncomfortable reported the images; the pupils who shared them were met by the administration and the school police officer and deleted the material, and their parents were also met. Lévis police say no complaint was filed and they see no criminal element. Which AI tool was used is not reported.

AI system as recorded: An unnamed artificial intelligence tool that pupils used to alter photos of school staff, according to the Centre de services scolaire des Navigateurs
What Happened
What circulated. The Centre de services scolaire des Navigateurs (CSSDN), the public school service centre, told Noovo Info and Le Soleil that some photos of members of the school's staff were modified by artificial intelligence and circulated on a messaging social network, in a private group bearing the school's name, between 18 and 21 October 2026. CBC and Le Soleil identify the platform as Snapchat. Radio-Canada reports the CSSDN describing the generated images as offensive, defamatory, hateful or violent in nature, the categories the school's rules prohibit. André Bernier, president of the Association québécoise du personnel de direction des écoles, told Radio-Canada, from information obtained from the school, that most of the images could be called silly but that one violent fake showed a staff member with a gun to the temple. Le Soleil's account also says classmates were targeted.
Discovery and response. Pupils who felt uncomfortable reported the situation to staff (CSSDN via CBC and Le Soleil); Le Soleil says the school administration and Lévis police were alerted on 20 October, and Radio-Canada says the administration intervened that day. The pupils who had circulated the images were met by the administration and the school police officer and showed and deleted the material, and their parents were also met. About ten pupils, mostly in the second year of secondary school, were suspended at school or at home for up to three days (CSSDN via Noovo Info and Le Soleil). Quebec's education minister said the school was right to suspend them (CBC).
Police and disputed details. Lévis police were informed; a police spokesperson told Le Soleil that no complaint has been filed and that there is no criminal element. The CSSDN told Noovo Info that it did not complain to police and that no teacher had done so either. Le Soleil reported unconfirmed descriptions of sexualised alterations, which the CSSDN and police would neither confirm nor deny; Radio-Canada reports that the police and the CSSDN say that information suggesting sexual fakes of staff had circulated is unfounded.
AI involvement. The AI attribution comes from the CSSDN, whose school staff and police officer viewed the material on the pupils' phones. The tool used and how the alteration was done are not disclosed.
Reported harm
School staff were depicted without their consent in AI-altered images that the school service centre says breached rules against offensive, defamatory, hateful or violent images; one reportedly showed a staff member with a gun to the head (CSSDN; André Bernier via Radio-Canada and CBC).
Outcome
ResolvedThe pupils who circulated the images were met by the school administration and the school police officer and showed and deleted the material, and their parents were also met; about ten were suspended at school or at home for up to three days (CSSDN via Radio-Canada and Le Soleil). Lévis police were informed; no complaint has been filed and the police see no criminal element (Le Soleil). Quebec's education minister said the school was right to suspend the pupils (CBC). No further action is reported as of 29 October 2026.
What remains unknown
- Which AI tool was used and how the photos were altered.
- How many staff members and classmates were depicted.
- Whether any image was sexualised: Le Soleil reported unconfirmed descriptions, while Radio-Canada reports that the police and the CSSDN say no sexual fakes of staff circulated.
- How the depicted staff members were affected.
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: reported. The Centre de services scolaire des Navigateurs, whose school administration and police officer viewed the material on the pupils' phones, says photos of staff members were modified by artificial intelligence and circulated among pupils; those altered images, which depicted staff in scenes the service centre called offensive, defamatory, hateful or violent, are the harm. The tool and the technical basis for the attribution are not disclosed.
7 claims: 7 reported. What the statuses mean

Los Banos, California: a substitute teacher says a sexualised AI image of him made from an old selfie circulated among middle-school students on TikTok and Snapchat and was used by a student account impersonating him; one student received in-school suspension and he stopped taking assignments at the middle school
WIRED (Caroline Haskins, 24 August 2026) reports the account of a substitute teacher in Los Banos, California, who spoke to WIRED by name (not repeated here). On 12 March 2026 a co-worker at his other job told him an AI photo was circulating on social media; the image reused a mirror selfie he had taken at a job in college but showed him in lingerie, posing suggestively. He traced an account sharing it on TikTok to a student at the middle school where he regularly substituted and reported it to the assistant principal; that evening he found a second account, created by a different student, impersonating him under a misspelled version of his name with the image as its profile picture. Over the following weeks he dealt with administrators, parents and the police; one student who admitted creating the image received an in-school suspension. He says the image was also shared on Snapchat, kept spreading among students and drew crude sexual comments on his TikTok account. He told administrators he would not take assignments at the middle school until the matter was addressed; at the local high school the same image was AirDropped to him during a class. WIRED says the district did not respond to its request for comment. He said he does not feel safe returning to the district. The Los Banos Enterprise (25 August 2026) summarised the WIRED account; no independent local reporting was found.
Italian administrative court upholds Genoa university's dismissal of a lecturer who made sexualised images of six students, reportedly with AI
In 2024 an associate professor at the University of Genoa took photos from the social-media profiles of six students, turned them into sexual images and shared them in Telegram chats. According to la Repubblica's October 2024 report, Genoa prosecutors accused him of 'undressing' the photos with apps that use artificial intelligence; the investigation began on 1 October 2024 after the rector's complaint, the postal police searched his office and home, and he was suspended. The university later dismissed him. According to Open and Fanpage, which report the judgment, the regional administrative court for Liguria (TAR) rejected his appeal against the dismissal in September 2026, citing a search record that found sexual virtual images on his computer matching those posted, and his interrogation, in which he admitted posting the images and creating them with software. The court found the repeated conduct harmful to the students' dignity and to the university. The criminal case, for aggravated defamation, was closed; the lecturer paid the students compensation. The tool used is not identified.
Hillsborough County, Florida: sheriff's office says a teenager used an AI-altered image to frame her ex-boyfriend for a school shooting threat
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, as reported by CBS News Miami, WFLA and WTSP, deputies responded to a high school in Riverview, Florida, on 14 October 2026 after administrators received an email containing a screenshot of an Instagram post threatening a shooting at the school. The post appeared to come from a male student. Detectives interviewed him and determined that the post did not come from him. The sheriff's office's communications chief said detectives very quickly realised the post was AI-altered and linked it to his ex-girlfriend, a teenage former student. Police say she admitted sending the email knowing that the image had been altered using AI. She was arrested and charged with making a written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism, unlawful use of a two-way communications device and disrupting a school campus or function. The tool used and how detectives established the alteration are not reported.
Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland: photo showing a pupil holding a machete circulated at a school; director says it was altered with AI, police checked, 9 Oct 2026
On Friday 9 October 2026, at about 13:30, a photograph showing a pupil holding a machete began circulating at a secondary school in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland, on a day when police were running stepped-up checks around schools after recent knife attacks in Polish schools. According to the local outlet ePiotrkow.pl, the photograph caused alarm, emergency services responded and found no real threat, and the school director said the image had been altered with artificial intelligence. The pupil shown in the photograph told the director of having fallen victim to an irresponsible joke. Police said they were clarifying the circumstances and warned that causing unnecessary interventions can be punished. Who made the image and with which tool is not reported.
