The Times of India (31 January 2026) reported, citing an official release, that a man was arrested for allegedly morphing photographs of a woman and her sister and mailing them with threatening letters to the woman's relatives and neighbours after his marriage proposal to her sister was rejected. The woman had complained at Banganga police station in July 2025 that an unknown person was sending mails with obscene content about her and her sister, morphed nude photographs and posters; an FIR was registered against an unknown accused, who proved elusive until a sustained investigation identified a local resident. He told police that marriage talks with the complainant's sister had failed and that he morphed the photographs and sent them by post to the neighbourhood and relatives, put up posters around the sister's house and sent threatening letters, intending to tarnish the family's social image so that no one would establish marital relations with them. The Free Press Journal (31 January) reported, quoting DCP (Crime) Rajesh Tripathi and crime branch officials, that the accused, an engineer working as a data analyst, had contacted the sister through a matrimonial website; the match fell through because their horoscopes did not match; he then carried out the mailings about seven times between July 2025 and January 2026, wearing a mask and cap and changing two or three buses to reach post offices in Ujjain, Dewas, Khategaon, Ashta and Dhar; he told police he learned evasion methods from the television serial Crime Patrol; the crime branch traced him through technical evidence. Patrika (30 January, Hindi) reported the arrest of a civil engineer who, after the match broke, made obscene photographs of the young woman with AI and sent them with letters to her family, relatives and neighbours; it added that police said digital forensic examination had found evidence of AI-generated images.
