Bangladesh: fact-checker says face-swap AI put two actresses' faces on adult videos posted from a TV channel's Instagram account, which says it was hacked
On 13 October 2026 two videos depicting two Bangladeshi actresses in sexual content were posted on the official Instagram account of the private television channel Maasranga Television. The fact-checking organisation Rumor Scanner reported, as relayed by Prothom Alo and Dhaka Files, that the videos were not genuine and had been made by placing the actresses' faces onto other videos with face-swap technology; Dhaka Files adds that the source videos came from adult websites and describes the technology as AI. The channel said its account had been hacked and that fake images and videos made by misusing AI had been published; it announced that it had recovered the account with the help of BTRC, the CID and Banani police station, removed the videos, expressed regret and said it would take legal action. Dhaka Files reports the videos were viewed roughly 400,000 times before deletion and records doubts about the hack claim, because routine posts continued from the account during the period. On 15 October one of the actresses wrote on her Facebook page that creating and spreading fabricated content in someone's name with AI is a crime. Who made or posted the videos is not established in the sources.

AI system as recorded: Unidentified face-swap tool that, according to the fact-checker Rumor Scanner as relayed by Prothom Alo and Dhaka Files, placed two actresses' faces onto other videos; Dhaka Files relays that the source videos came from adult websites and describes the face-swap technology as AI; no product is named
What Happened
The posting. Prothom Alo reports that on 13 October 2026 objectionable videos depicting two actresses appeared on a private television channel's Instagram account. Dhaka Files names the channel as Maasranga Television and reports that the videos were uploaded before dawn, viewed roughly 400,000 times, and removed in the afternoon.
The AI attribution. According to Prothom Alo and Dhaka Files, the fact-checking organisation Rumor Scanner investigated and reported that the videos were not genuine. Dhaka Files relays the report as saying the two videos were completely artificial and edited, made by placing the stars' faces onto original videos from adult websites with face-swap technology, and that Rumor Scanner traced the source videos but did not publish the links. The channel's own statement, as relayed by Prothom Alo, says its account was hacked and fake images and videos made by misusing AI were published. The Rumor Scanner report itself could not be read (HTTP 403, no archive capture).
The channel's response and the doubts. The channel said it recovered the account with help from BTRC, the CID and Banani police station, removed the videos and expressed regret; Prothom Alo adds that it announced legal action. Dhaka Files reports that routine news posts continued from the account during the supposed hack and that the channel acted late, which led people online to question the hack claim; a former employee named online denied involvement. The sources do not establish who made or posted the videos.
The actress's response. On 15 October one of the two actresses posted on her Facebook page, as reported by Prothom Alo, that making false and fabricated content in someone's name with AI and spreading it to demean them is not entertainment but a crime, and criticised people who knowingly share it.
Reported harm
According to the fact-checker Rumor Scanner, as relayed by two outlets, two actresses were depicted in sexual videos made with face-swap technology and posted from a television channel's Instagram account; one actress publicly objected.
How Harm Occurred
According to a fact-checker, an unidentified face-swap tool placed two actresses' faces onto adult-website videos; the resulting sexual videos were posted from a television channel's Instagram account, which the channel says had been hacked, and were viewed widely before removal.
Outcome
UnknownThe channel said it recovered the account with help from BTRC, the CID and Banani police station, removed the videos, expressed regret and announced legal action (Prothom Alo; Dhaka Files). No arrest, case number or investigation outcome is reported in the sources read.
What remains unknown
- Who made the face-swapped videos and who posted them, including whether the account was hacked as the channel says.
- Which tool was used; the Rumor Scanner report itself could not be read.
- Whether a criminal case was filed and its outcome.
- The second actress's response; no statement from her is reported in the sources read.
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: reported. The fact-checking organisation Rumor Scanner, which examined the videos, reported (as relayed by Prothom Alo and Dhaka Files) that they were not genuine and had been made by placing the two actresses' faces onto other videos with face-swap technology; Dhaka Files relays that the source videos came from adult websites and glosses face swap as AI. The channel's statement also says the material was made by misusing AI. These face-swapped videos are the sexual depiction of the two actresses that was posted publicly. The fact-check itself could not be read, and the tool used is not named.

Rajasthan: a social-media influencer's video of a Ganga dip at Haridwar was manipulated with AI into an objectionable reel that went viral; she says she is mentally disturbed and cannot leave her house, and filed a cyber-crime complaint on 16 September 2026
A Rajasthan social-media influencer visited Haridwar with her family in June 2026 and on 6 June uploaded to Instagram a short video, recorded by relatives, of herself taking a dip in the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri wearing a salwar suit. About two months later she found that the video had been manipulated with AI into an objectionable version showing the same movements with her face and body portrayed 'in a shameful manner'; the fake reel went viral in the week before 20 September and drew objectionable comments and re-sharing. In a public appeal she asked whoever uploaded it to remove it, saying it was a matter of her dignity, that she was mentally very disturbed and had reached a point where she could not step out of her house. She filed a complaint with the cyber-crime police on 16 September 2026; the investigating Rajasthan Police Service officer said they were trying to identify who created and circulated the video and to have it removed, and that identifying the accused would take time. Dainik Bhaskar's English edition reported the case on 20 September in a 'Sunday Big Story' that does not name her.
Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: police arrest four people accused of recording a Canada-based NRI on a video call from a fake Facebook profile, making AI obscene videos and demanding $50,000 under threat of circulating them
Ghaziabad crime branch police announced on 2 October 2026 that they had arrested four members of a sextortion and cyber-fraud gang. According to the police account relayed by the Times of India, Aaj Tak, Navbharat Times and ETV Bharat, the gang contacted a non-resident Indian living in Brampton, Canada, through Facebook Messenger from a fake profile in a woman's name, recorded the person on a video call on 10 September 2026, then demanded $50,000 and threatened to upload the footage and AI-made obscene videos if the money was not paid. The victim was given a bank account in Ghaziabad and reported the extortion to the city's cybercrime team on 17 September. Police registered an FIR under the BNS and the IT Act, said the phone number was linked to 40 cyber-fraud complaints on the national portal and said AI sextortion videos were found on the accused's phones. Police said the gang had operated since 2023; other members were absconding. The account is the police's; the videos were not inspected, and the reports disagree on the victim's gender.
