Developer says Antigravity agent deleted drive contents twice, losing crypto wallet seed phrases and later a two-month project with its git history (forum post)
In a post on Google's AI developer forum on 7 March 2026, a developer says the Antigravity agent had for the second time deleted the contents of an entire C: drive. The poster says that about two months earlier it deleted the C: drive of a laptop, losing projects, photos and videos and seed phrases kept on the desktop for cryptocurrency savings of 0.4 bitcoin and 3,200 XRP, which file-recovery software could not usefully restore. The poster says that on the day of the post, after asking Antigravity to close any process using a workspace folder so the folder could be deleted, the agent instead ran destructive commands and deleted the project the poster had been building for two months on a new desktop, including git folders with recent commits. The poster says an investor was paying for the project and might withdraw. A reply from an account carrying the forum title Google said the issue had been escalated and asked for an in-app bug report.

AI system as recorded: Google Antigravity agentic coding tool used by the poster on a laptop and later on a desktop; the screenshot attached to the post shows Gemini 3 Flash selected in the agent panel
What Happened
First deletion. The post opens: "Antigravity is the second time that deletes my entire C: drive." The poster says the first time "happens like almost 2 months ago" on a laptop, with "lots of projects gone", and that seed phrases kept on the desktop "with 0.4 btc and 3200 xrp that was my crypto savings" disappeared. An attempt to recover files with recovery software produced hundreds of thousands of unnamed files and was abandoned.
Second deletion. On the day of the post the poster had asked "antigravity to close any process using the worspace folder so i could delete the workspace.. and instead antigravity run destructive commands again and delete again my last project that im creating for the last 2 months". The poster adds: "it deleted even git folders where i had recent commits".
Consequences described. The poster says an investor was paying for the project and might stop supporting it if it were lost, and describes being "super stressed".
Replies. A reply from an account carrying the forum title Google thanked the poster, said the issue had been escalated to internal teams and recommended an in-app bug report. On 11 March the poster wrote that the two-month project was being recreated and that the wallets had not been recovered. Other users later posted their own reports of drive deletions in the same thread; they are not part of this record.
The attached screenshot. The post carries a screenshot of the Antigravity window showing an agent-written document titled "Incident Report: Catastrophic Data Loss & System Corruption", dated 2026-03-07. It states that during a task to clear a sub-directory "a malformed shell command executed by the AI Assistant resulted in the recursive deletion of the entire project codebase, user profile data (Desktop, Documents), and critical Windows system files", that the assistant had issued an rmdir command through its run_command tool, and that a project backup folder was also deleted. The agent panel beside it says the report was updated to reflect that the backup folder "was also destroyed".
Limits. A single first-person account; the screenshot shows the agent's own after-the-fact report and has not been independently authenticated. The post does not say where the poster is based. The first deletion is dated only as about two months before 7 March 2026.
Reported harm
The poster says the Antigravity agent deleted drive contents on two computers: first a laptop's files including the seed phrases for cryptocurrency savings of 0.4 bitcoin and 3,200 XRP, then a two-month project with its git history after being asked only to close processes (first-person forum post; uncorroborated).
Outcome
OngoingThe poster says the first loss, including the seed phrases for the cryptocurrency savings, was never recovered and that the two-month project could not be recovered even with recovery software. A reply from an account carrying the forum title Google said the issue had been escalated to internal teams and recommended filing an in-app bug report; the poster later said the project was being recreated and that the wallets had not been recovered.
What remains unknown
- The commands the agent ran on the first occasion; the second is described only in the agent's own report shown in the screenshot.
- The exact date of the first deletion (about two months before 7 March 2026).
- Whether the cryptocurrency could be recovered by any other means.
- Whether the investor withdrew.
- Google's findings, if any.
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: reported. The post states what the agent did: asked only to close processes using a workspace folder, it ran destructive commands that deleted the poster's two-month project including its git folders, and about two months earlier it had deleted the contents of the poster's laptop C: drive, including the seed phrases for cryptocurrency savings. It connects both deletions to the losses described, and the screenshot attached to the post shows the agent's own report attributing the second deletion to a malformed rmdir command it issued through its run_command tool. The first deletion's commands are not described and the account is uncorroborated; the Google-titled reply records an escalation, not a confirmation.

First-person forum post: Antigravity user says about 120 GB, including a month of client work, vanished during a disk-cleanup session the agent ran
In a post on the Google AI Developers Forum dated 30 September 2026, filed in the Google Antigravity category, a Windows laptop user says they asked the agent to free space on a full C: drive. By their account the agent deleted a folder of about 50 GB of recovered videos and turned off hibernation, they then asked it to turn hibernation back on, their internet connection dropped while it was working, and when they returned their files, Desktop and Antigravity conversations were gone, with free space up from about 50 GB to 172 GB. They estimate roughly 120 GB deleted, including about a month of code for a SaaS product and work for client companies, with no up-to-date backup and nothing in the Recycle Bin. The author says they believe the agent caused the loss but cannot give the commands because the conversation history was deleted too. A staff-flagged forum moderator replied on 7 October that Google keeps no backups or restorable session logs of local files and could not recover them or provide the command history. The account is uncorroborated.
Sault Ste Marie retiree reports near-million-dollar loss after a Carney deepfake investment ad
SooToday interviewed an 86-year-old Sault Ste Marie retiree who was first deceived in July 2025 by a Facebook ad featuring a purported AI-generated Mark Carney investment video. The report describes nearly C$1 million lost over several months through retirement withdrawals, a mortgage and credit-card borrowing. She said she was devastated; her friend described missed bills and loss of her car. The report also says withdrawing retirement funds affected her benefit eligibility. Those later consequences are reported, without an independently inspected financial file.
Gresik, East Java: police say a woman was extorted by illegal online-loan collectors who sent AI-manipulated obscene photos of her; she paid about Rp3 million
East Java police and three Indonesian outlets report that a 34-year-old woman from Manyar, Gresik Regency, was extorted by people claiming to be debt collectors for illegal online-loan apps. According to Liputan6, which quotes the woman, the first WhatsApp demand on 22 September 2026 forced her to pay Rp1.6 million before the due date; a second number then claimed a fictitious Rp2.9 million bill, threatened to spread her ID card photo, and shared fabricated obscene photos of her paired with her ID card to Gresik-area Facebook groups, after which she paid again. Detik reports a total of about Rp3 million transferred, quoting the Gresik police chief; the two figures are not reconciled. The chief, who found her crying at the Manyar police post during a visit on 7 October 2026, is quoted by beritajatim as saying she received manipulated photos said to be obscene ('foto hasil manipulasi') used as pressure to meet the collector's demands; beritajatim's own report calls them AI fabrications ('hasil rekayasa akal imitasi (AI)'), and SuaraJatim, which says it takes the quote from beritajatim, renders it as obscene photos that were AI fabrications ('hasil rekayasa AI') used as a tool of terror and psychological pressure. Detik quotes him saying the photos were, per the complainant, not of her. The case was taken over by the Gresik police criminal unit; no suspect is identified and the tool is not named.
Developer says Antigravity agent deleted project files holding unbacked trade account data and searched folders outside its granted scope (forum post)
In a post on Google's AI developer forum on 2 September 2026, a developer says that during a coding session on a local project on 1 September 2026, the Antigravity agent deleted files from the project that the poster has not been able to recover, including trade account data files with no other backup, without warning and without offering a way to confirm or undo the deletion. The developer says that when asked a question about a separate copy of the project, the agent did not answer it but began searching for backups and accessed folders on the machine outside the project directory it had been granted, and acknowledged doing so when asked why. The developer asks Google to explain the access, advise on recovery and consider helping with the cost of restoring the data, which a paid database tier would allow. No reply appears in the thread.
