AI system as recorded: Unidentified AI tools reported to have been used to make obscene photos and videos of the complainant, described by Divya Marathi as AI deepfake technology that placed her face on obscene pictures and videos

What Happened

Background. Pudhari reports that the complainant, a 35-year-old resident of Ambad, had been active in the Maratha reservation agitation for about three years. On 26 September she told the media that she and others had set everything aside to support Manoj Jarange Patil and had not seen the result. Divya Marathi reports that she had openly questioned some of his political and social positions.

The posts. According to her complaint as reported by Pudhari, some of his supporters began targeting her on social media after those remarks. Obscene photos and videos of her made with AI were posted on Facebook. Posts from named Facebook and Instagram accounts abused her and her mother-in-law in obscene language, accused her of profiting from the agitation, and threatened rape and death. Divya Marathi reports that her face was placed on obscene pictures and videos with AI deepfake technology, that the material spread on Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, and that anonymous callers threatened to kill her and her relatives.

The complaint and FIR. She went to Ambad police station on Thursday 1 October with screenshots, saying she had been badly defamed and that her life and her family's were in danger. Police registered an FIR against five named profile holders and five to six others under sections 351 and 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 67 of the Information Technology Act. Divya Marathi reports that she said her whole family was under severe mental stress.

Response. Divya Marathi reports that Jarange Patil, speaking after the cases were registered, said cases and inquiries were being imposed on the people around him. He is not reported to be an accused.

Limits. Both reports follow one complaint and one FIR. Neither names an AI tool, and no forensic finding on the images is reported. The dates of the individual posts are not given beyond their following the 26 September remarks. The accused are named in the reports and are not named here; their accounts of the posts are not reported.

Reported harm

The complainant told police she had been badly defamed and that her life and her family's were in danger after AI-made obscene photos and videos of her and rape and death threats were posted (complaint as reported by Pudhari); Divya Marathi reports her saying the whole family was under severe mental stress.

Divya Marathi reports that the complainant had approached the police twice before and that police registered the case after examining the profiles, screenshots and audio of threatening calls she submitted. New York: the Manhattan District Attorney seized 12 websites selling AI-generated sexual deepfakes of about 1,200 real people

On 14 September 2026 Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the seizure of 12 domain names used to disseminate, publish and sell non-consensual AI-generated sexual 'deepfake' videos. His office said individuals under investigation had used AI image- and video-creation tools to turn photos and videos of approximately 1,200 real people, overwhelmingly women, into hyper-realistic sexual imagery without consent. The victims included actors, politicians, athletes, musicians, activists and social-media influencers. WIRED and outside researchers reported that many videos reposted content from the defunct MrDeepFakes platform and that dozens of politicians appeared on the sites; investigations into who ran them are ongoing.

Bengaluru: actor Rukmini Vasanth says AI-generated photos passed off as hers are fake and files a complaint after AI-morphed photos and videos of her went viral in May 2026; police arrest three people, reported on 19 and 20 June 2026

According to ETV Bharat Kannada (20 June 2026) and Oneindia Kannada (19 June 2026), Bengaluru police arrested three people accused of using AI technology to morph photographs of the actor Rukmini Vasanth and of circulating AI-made photos and videos depicting her on social media. ETV Bharat reports that the material went viral on social media platforms and in some media in May, that it harmed her dignity and privacy and caused her mental harassment, and that she filed a complaint. In a statement on her social media accounts, quoted by ETV Bharat, she said the AI-generated photos circulating as hers were completely fake and that making and spreading manipulated content was a serious violation of privacy. Police seized three mobile phones and the accused were remanded to judicial custody. Oneindia reports that her face had been obscenely altered with AI technology in a video released on the internet. Ahmedabad, Gujarat: a 27-year-old Delhi man was arrested for posting AI-morphed obscene images and videos of a young woman and her mother (more than 100 images found) on fake accounts in her name after she declined his friendship, while posing as the friend reporting the fake accounts for her

On 28 May 2026 the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch announced the arrest in north-east Delhi of a 27-year-old man who posts religious discourse videos online. Police allege that after meeting a young Ahmedabad woman with a public social-media profile through religious conversations on Instagram and being refused friendship, he stalked her online from December 2025 to April 2026, created fake accounts in her name (three Instagram accounts and a YouTube channel at first; eight to ten across X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube were found on his phone), downloaded photographs of her and her mother, used websites found by searching "AI remove clothes" to generate morphed obscene images and videos of the two women, and posted them with obscene captions to damage her reputation; investigators say more than 100 AI-morphed images of the complainant were found. Officers told ThePrint and ANI that she had confided in him about the accounts and that he told her to keep quiet and claimed to be reporting the accounts and getting hers reinstated. She complained to the Cyber Crime Police Station; an FIR was registered on 6 April 2026 under BNS Sections 78(2) and 356(2) and IT Act Sections 66(C) and 67, and the accused was traced through technical surveillance and arrested under the Branch's "Mission Cyber Rakshika" campaign. The complainant said she was mentally harassed and defamed; the DCP said the images also depicted her maternal aunt. Further investigation was under way; no charge sheet or court outcome was found.

London: the broadcaster Narinder Kaur says that since sexually explicit images made from her Instagram photographs with a nudification app appeared on X in November 2025 she has been tagged in at least 20 more deepfaked pictures and videos, and that she fell into a depression; no perpetrator has been identified (Daily Mail, 30 September 2026)

Narinder Kaur, a 54-year-old broadcaster and regular TV commentator, told the Daily Mail (30 September 2026) that one morning in November 2025 she opened X and found sexually explicit images of herself, made by taking photographs she had shared on Instagram and removing her clothing with a so-called nudification app. Since then she has been tagged in at least 20 more deepfaked pictures and videos, some linking her to Jeffrey Epstein. She says she fell into a depression in the early weeks and her GP suggested antidepressants, that commenters treated the images as real, and that she fears her teenage children will see them. She has reported each image and had numerous police visits, but no perpetrator has been identified because the accounts are anonymous and deleted when reported. She has joined the Stop AI Abuse campaign.
