Zacatecas, Mexico: students report AI-altered sexual images of hundreds of classmates at a secondary school

In November 2025 parents and students at a secondary school in the city of Zacatecas blocked a road and occupied the school after reporting that a classmate had altered photos of schoolmates with AI applications and posted them online. Parents estimated about 400 affected students. The state prosecutor's office opened an investigation for crimes against sexual intimacy and reported 46 complaints in an N+ report published 13 November, while saying it had not located the online page or obtained any image and had not determined whether AI or another application was used. The school director and a social worker were separated from their posts after parents said they minimized the reports. Claims about AI use and the number affected are unverified in the inspected reports.

Reported harm

Parents and students reported that AI-altered sexual images of students, published with their names, circulated online. A parent reported that a child was crying. In an N+ report published 13 November 2025 the prosecutor had not located the images or the online page.

What remains unknown

  • Start date and duration of the image creation are not stated. Reports say only that the matter surfaced in the week before 10 November 2025 and that parents said reports to staff went unaddressed for weeks. The year is the only supported precision.
  • No image or online page had been located by the prosecutor according to an N+ report published 13 November 2025. The catalogue and its contents rest on parent and student statements.
  • Whether AI or a different application was used is undetermined per the prosecutor. The number of students affected (about 400 by parent estimate) is unverified.
  • The Herald headline says the material was sold. The body of that report says only that protesters feared it could have been commercialized, and the prosecutor said no image or video had been collected. No sale is claimed here.
  • The number of students who created the material differs across reports: several parents and two outlets say three students, while the prosecutor statements concern one adolescent and one parent says one student made all the images.
  • Outcome of the criminal and school investigations is not in the inspected sources. Related-story cards on the pages were not used. All six saved bodies were read as extracted text, and that extraction may omit captions or embedded posts.

What the evidence supports

AI involvement: reported. Parents and students say AI applications were used. In an N+ report published 13 November 2025 the prosecutor said it was still to be determined whether AI or another application was used. TV Azteca and El Financiero (11 November) report the prosecutor's office as saying the student used generative AI programs.

5 claims: 5 reported. What the statuses mean

Reported Parents and students at a secondary school in the city of Zacatecas reported that photos of students were altered with AI applications into sexual images that were posted online, with a parent estimate of about 400 affected students.

Causal attribution. The AI use is asserted by parents and students, with all outlets reporting the same protest statements. The prosecutor later said it had not been determined whether AI or another application was used (claim c3).

Reported The state prosecutor's office opened an investigation for crimes against sexual intimacy and had received 46 complaints according to an N+ report published 13 November 2025.

Causal attribution. A prosecutor statement establishes the existence of complaints and an investigation. It does not establish that the allegations are true. An earlier report (El Financiero, 11 November) cites 80 complaints from authorities, so the count differs across reports.

Reported In an N+ report published 13 November 2025, the prosecutor said the online page had not been located, no image had been collected from anyone who reported being depicted, and it was still to be determined whether AI or an app was used.

Causal attribution. Limits on what the authority had verified according to that report. Reports of 11 November (TV Azteca, El Financiero) attribute to the prosecutor's office a statement that the student used generative AI programs, and the later N+ report says this was still to be determined. Later developments were not found in the inspected sources.

Reported Parents accused school staff of minimizing the reports and of allowing evidence to be erased. The education authority separated the school director and a social worker from their posts pending an investigation.

Causal attribution. Parent accusations are attributed to parents. The separation is an administrative measure reported from authority statements. Neither establishes the school's fault.

Reported A parent reported that their child was crying about the images.

Causal attribution. Single parent quotation in one outlet.

People reported harmed in this case

Not reliably quantifiable from the sources

Parents estimated about 400 students. Authorities reported 80 complaints on 11 November (El Financiero) and 46 in an N+ report published 13 November, and said none of the images had been collected. Complaint counts and estimates are not verified harmed-person counts, so no minimum is recorded.

Counted once within this case. The same person may appear in other cases. This count does not establish AI causation.

Kulai, Johor: a 16-year-old pupil was arrested and charged after AI-edited nude images of schoolmates and alumni, including minors, were sold online at RM2 each; police logged 29 victim reports and the principal resigned

In April 2025 Johor police arrested a 16-year-old pupil of a private Chinese independent secondary school in Kulai district after an 18-year-old woman reported on 3 April that nude images edited with her face were circulating on social media and being offered for sale. Police said the boy used an AI application to edit photos taken from victims' social media accounts and sold the images at RM2 each; a phone was seized and a 19-year-old was later remanded alongside him. Eight victim reports at the time of the arrest on 8 April grew to 22 by 12 April and 29 by 15 April. The Deputy Communications Minister, who is also the Kulai MP, said on 9 April that most victims were alumni but some were current pupils as young as 14, and on 12 April that 38 people had been identified, the youngest 12 or 13, and her office helped victims lodge reports. A female pupil's viral post said a Telegram chat room of more than 200 members shared the composites and that the school had initially treated the matter as a minor infraction; the school board expelled the boy, acknowledged its slow handling, offered counselling and legal aid, and the principal resigned on 12 April. On 23 April 2025 the boy pleaded guilty at the Kulai Magistrate's Court to possessing 14 pornographic images and not guilty to a charge under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 of producing sexual abuse material by editing a 17-year-old classmate's image; no verdict on that charge has been found.

University of Hong Kong: a law student made about 700 indecent AI-generated images of some 20 to 30 classmates and teachers; the privacy watchdog opened then closed a criminal probe

In February 2025 a University of Hong Kong (HKU) law student was found, by friends who saw the files on his laptop, to have used free online AI software to make about 700 indecent and deepfake images of some 20 to 30 women, including university and former schoolmates and secondary-school teachers, using photos taken from their social media. Victims went public in July 2025, and HKU's initial response, a warning letter and a demand that he apologise, drew wide criticism. Hong Kong's Privacy Commissioner opened a criminal investigation on 15 July 2025 but announced on 17 December 2025 that it was ending the probe for insufficient evidence, as no victim was willing to provide further information. Hong Kong law criminalised distribution, not creation, of such images.

Incheon, South Korea: teenager sentenced to up to two years for AI deepfake sexual images of five teachers and six students, distributed on Telegram with the victims' names and schools

On 16 September 2026 the Incheon District Court sentenced a teenage defendant to an indeterminate term of two years (maximum) to one year six months (minimum) under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act for making and distributing false sexual images, ordered a 40-hour treatment programme and a five-year ban on working with children, and took him into custody in court. As a middle-school student in Incheon in 2024 he had used AI deepfake technology to composite the faces of five teachers, including his homeroom teacher whom he tricked into sending photographs, and six female middle- and high-school students from his taekwondo academy onto nude images and videos, 35 productions in all, and distributed them in Telegram 'acquaintance humiliation' chat rooms with the victims' real names, ages, schools, subjects and, per two reports, phone numbers (Hankook Ilbo adds Instagram IDs on some). The teachers learned of the images only in January 2026; the court said they are receiving long-term psychological treatment. He had withdrawn from school a week before the teachers'-rights committee met, avoiding school discipline. The Incheon teachers' union called the sentence, below the prosecution's request, regrettable.

Logroño: the Guardia Civil investigates a 14-year-old who took photographs of nine underage classmates from their public social-media profiles, used AI tools to strip and sexualise them, and uploaded the fake images to an adult pornography website under a profile describing them as girls from his school made with AI, organised in folders with each girl's personal details; the images reached about 40,000 views before removal (reported 14 July 2026)

On 14 July 2026 Spain's Interior Ministry published a Guardia Civil release stating that a 14-year-old from Logroño was under investigation as the presumed author of offences of discovery and disclosure of secrets, corruption of minors and child pornography. Investigators from the technology investigation team (EDITE) and Equipo@ found that he knew all nine victims, all minors and classmates, followed them on social media, took their photographs from the public content of their profiles without consent, and used artificial-intelligence tools to manipulate the images, digitally undress and sexualise them. He uploaded the fake pornographic material to an adult pornography website, created a profile there describing the content as girls from his school made with AI, and organised it in individual folders with each victim's personal data, which the Guardia Civil says made the girls recognisable and multiplied the emotional and social harm. Before the content could be removed it had reached about 40,000 views, amplifying the harm to the nine girls' privacy within hours. The proceedings were passed to the juvenile prosecutor under the juvenile criminal responsibility law; the release notes that parents or guardians are jointly liable for moral damages. Diario de León (Europa Press, 26 July) placed the case in a series of Spanish school cases since Almendralejo in 2023 and, unlike the release, described the minor as having been arrested.
