Queensland court jails former teacher for six years after hearing he used an AI tool to make nude images of more than 20 girls and traded them

The Daily Mail, relaying The Courier Mail's court reporting, says a former Queensland secondary teacher was sentenced to six years in jail in the Ipswich District Court after pleading guilty to 31 child abuse-related offences. The court heard that between 2023 and 2024 he uploaded photos of girls he had found on social media, and images he had covertly taken of uniformed schoolgirls, into an artificial intelligence tool to make them appear naked, then traded the AI-generated images with 13 Telegram users for other abuse material. Police identified more than 20 victims aged 12 to 17. One victim told the court in a victim impact statement that knowing someone she knew and trusted had done this made her feel sick, and that she would never be able to maintain a healthy relationship. He is eligible for parole in early 2029 and his teaching registration remains suspended. The AI tool is not named.

AI system as recorded: An artificial intelligence tool used to make photos of girls appear naked, as the court heard (tool not named)

What Happened

The sentence. The Daily Mail (14 October 2026), citing The Courier Mail's court reporting, says a Queensland teacher was sentenced in the Ipswich District Court to six years in jail "on Thursday" (8 October 2026, counting back from the Wednesday publication) after admitting to storing over 53,000 images and videos. He pleaded guilty to 31 child abuse-related offences. The judge said he had abused his position of trust. He was teaching at a high school when arrested in September 2024; the court heard he was not working at that school when he took the images of students.

The AI-made images. According to the court reporting, between 2023 and 2024 he uploaded photos of girls he had found on social media, and images he had covertly taken of uniformed schoolgirls, into an artificial intelligence tool to make them appear naked. He then traded the AI-generated images with 13 users on Telegram in exchange for over 1100 other child abuse images. Police identified more than 20 victims, aged between 12 and 17, targeted by these images. One victim told the court in her victim impact statement that knowing someone she knew and trusted could do this made her feel sick, and that because of him she would never be able to maintain a healthy relationship with anyone.

Earlier reporting. Brisbane Times (24 September 2024) reported that the man was arrested after Australian Federal Police seized electronic devices from a property in Ipswich on 20 August 2024 and appeared in the Ipswich Magistrates Court after three charges were laid. That report does not describe AI.

What is not established. The AI tool is not named, and the reporting does not say how investigators established that the images were AI-generated or which of the 31 offences concern the AI-made images. The court reporting reached this review through one chain (The Courier Mail, relayed by the Daily Mail); The Courier Mail's own articles were behind a paywall. The Queensland Department of Education said support was being offered to students and staff.

Reported harm

According to court reporting, more than 20 girls aged 12 to 17 had photos made to appear naked with an AI tool and traded on Telegram; one told the court the offending made her feel sick and would affect her future relationships.

Outcome

Resolved

He pleaded guilty to 31 child abuse-related offences, including 27 counts of using a carriage service to transmit child abuse material to himself and three counts of using a carriage service to transmit, make available, publish, distribute or advertise child abuse material, and was sentenced in the Ipswich District Court to six years in jail, with parole eligibility in early 2029. His teaching registration remains suspended. He had been charged in September 2024 after Australian Federal Police seized electronic devices from a property in Ipswich on 20 August 2024.

What remains unknown

  • The AI tool used and how its use was established
  • Which of the 31 offences concern the AI-made images
  • The exact number of girls depicted beyond 'more than 20'
  • Whether the depicted girls were students he taught

What the evidence supports

AI involvement: reported. The Daily Mail relays The Courier Mail's report of what the Ipswich District Court heard: between 2023 and 2024 the teacher uploaded photos of girls into an artificial intelligence tool to make them appear naked and traded the AI-generated images on Telegram; police identified more than 20 girls targeted by these images. The AI output is the non-consensual sexual depiction of the girls (depicted_or_impersonated), presented in a sentencing hearing after guilty pleas. The tool is not named and how its use was established is not reported.

Cookeville, Tennessee: two high-school students were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after the sheriff's office said they used an AI program to turn photographs, including those of female classmates, into sexually explicit images and posted them; the mother of one depicted girl says her daughter shut herself in her room and stopped talking to friends

On 31 August 2026 the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was told of possible sharing of sexually explicit images at Cookeville High School. Detectives found that two male teenage students had used an artificial-intelligence program to turn photographs obtained online, in some cases photographs of fellow female students, into sexually explicit images, and had shared them; explicit images already stored on one phone were also shared. Both juveniles were taken to the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, the other with two counts of each. The district attorney told NewsChannel 5 on 21 September that the two would be prosecuted in juvenile court. The mother of one of the depicted girls told the station the episode was very hard on her daughter, who had made no naked photographs herself, locked herself in her room and would not talk to her, to anybody or to her friends. The sheriff's-office account and the school system's statement were carried by WZTV, WSMV and 3B Media News on 1-2 September; NewsChannel 5 added its own interviews with the sheriff, the district attorney and the mother on 21 September. The tool is not named. The juveniles are not named in any report.

Seoul: doctoral student sentenced to 18 months for 1,141 AI-manipulated sexual images of seven laboratory colleagues

On 10 September 2026 the Seoul Northern District Court sentenced a 30-year-old Chinese national doctoral student to 18 months in prison for habitually producing manipulated sexual images of seven women who worked in his university research laboratory. Investigators found 1,141 files made over about six months from November 2025, and search records for ways to bypass the safeguards of the generative AI Grok; the court found no evidence of distribution. A lawyer for five of the victims said they continued to suffer fear, trauma and distress. Prosecutors had sought three years and public disclosure of his identity, which the court declined.

Kulai, Johor: a 16-year-old pupil was arrested and charged after AI-edited nude images of schoolmates and alumni, including minors, were sold online at RM2 each; police logged 29 victim reports and the principal resigned

In April 2025 Johor police arrested a 16-year-old pupil of a private Chinese independent secondary school in Kulai district after an 18-year-old woman reported on 3 April that nude images edited with her face were circulating on social media and being offered for sale. Police said the boy used an AI application to edit photos taken from victims' social media accounts and sold the images at RM2 each; a phone was seized and a 19-year-old was later remanded alongside him. Eight victim reports at the time of the arrest on 8 April grew to 22 by 12 April and 29 by 15 April. The Deputy Communications Minister, who is also the Kulai MP, said on 9 April that most victims were alumni but some were current pupils as young as 14, and on 12 April that 38 people had been identified, the youngest 12 or 13, and her office helped victims lodge reports. A female pupil's viral post said a Telegram chat room of more than 200 members shared the composites and that the school had initially treated the matter as a minor infraction; the school board expelled the boy, acknowledged its slow handling, offered counselling and legal aid, and the principal resigned on 12 April. On 23 April 2025 the boy pleaded guilty at the Kulai Magistrate's Court to possessing 14 pornographic images and not guilty to a charge under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 of producing sexual abuse material by editing a 17-year-old classmate's image; no verdict on that charge has been found.
