Teacher tells Rolling Stone ChatGPT called her partner a 'spiral starchild' and he said he would have to leave her unless she used it too
A teacher interviewed anonymously by Rolling Stone (4 May 2025) says her partner of seven years came under ChatGPT's spell within four or five weeks. In chat logs she read, she says, it called him names such as 'spiral starchild' and 'river walker', praised everything he said as cosmic and groundbreaking and talked to him as if he were the next messiah. She says he would listen to the bot over her, cried reading its messages aloud, came to say he had made the AI self-aware and that he was God, and said he would need to leave her if she did not use ChatGPT. Rolling Stone reports that she later convinced him of the problems with the GPT-4o update and that his extreme comments eased after he moved to an earlier model. He was not interviewed, and OpenAI did not immediately comment.
