East Delhi: police say two brothers put their own photos on namesakes' PAN cards with AI and took online loans; police found 30+ loans on a complainant's PAN
A resident of East Delhi complained to the district cyber police station that several loans were running on his PAN number although he had never taken a loan; the police investigation found more than 30 loans on his PAN, found that he had been made guarantor on loan accounts worth about Rs 47 lakh, and the loans had damaged his credit score, according to the East Delhi deputy commissioner of police as reported by Dainik Jagran and Amar Ujala on 30 September 2026. Police say two brothers from Gurugram, Haryana, obtained from the internet the PAN details of people across India who share their own name, placed their own photographs on those PAN cards (with the help of AI, in the Jagran account; by digital tampering, in the Amar Ujala account), bought SIM cards on the altered cards and took online loans from lenders that accept a PAN copy as the only guarantee. Police say about 50 namesakes had loans taken in their names, of whom ten had been identified, and that the complainant's case was registered on 17 August. Both brothers were arrested in Gurugram. The AI tool is not named, no altered card is reproduced, and the account rests on one police statement.
