Santiago Schnell, provost of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, resigned and is leaving the college, President Sian Leah Beilock announced on 28 October 2026. The announcement followed the report of an advisory committee she had convened on 25 September after Semafor and the student newspaper The Dartmouth reported that the AI detector Pangram flagged his 2026 op-eds and articles as AI-written. The committee did not use Pangram. Drawing on his Dartmouth Claude enterprise logs and his emails, it found that he used AI to meaningfully alter his writing in violation of at least one publication's AI disclosure requirement, failed to disclose ChatGPT use in a Washington Post column against the newspaper's policy, and was not forthcoming about his AI use. The committee said it was not recommending disciplinary action, and the president said the resignation was his decision. Inside Higher Ed reports that he was due to face a faculty no-confidence vote. He has said AI did not substitute for his own research, judgment or authorship.

On 22 October 2026 the urgent-applications judge of the Rennes administrative tribunal rejected a student's request, filed through a lawyer on 18 October, to suspend a university's June 2026 refusal to admit her to a psychology master's programme, finding neither urgency nor serious doubt about the refusal's legality. The judge also fined her 750 euros for an abusive request. The order gives as reasons that the request met neither condition, concerned a programme for which she manifestly lacked the level, and referred to other people's names in ways the judge read as stereotyped mass-produced appeals; it adds that the request mixed curly and straight apostrophes, used many em dashes and black round bullets, and had an ordered but repetitive argument, elements the judge called characteristic of text generated by a generative-AI tool such as Claude.ai. The order does not establish who drafted the request or whether AI was used; Clubic noted that a copy and paste from a word processor can leave the same traces.

In a public post to r/jobs titled 'We were replaced with AI', created on 24 October 2026, a server and network administrator writes that they and the company's lead developer were terminated that day: their access to various systems was revoked and the chief executive then called them, with major budget cuts as the theme of the call. The poster writes that both were replaced with 'the Anthropic subscription' and, in a reply, that it is an Anthropic subscription of 180 dollars a month that the chief executive mentioned, and that staff had seen him using it to scan the company's infrastructure days earlier. In replies the poster says the company is small, located in Australia, and that they worked for it remotely, that finance staff had calls with the chief executive scheduled for the following Monday, and that they feel their years of loyalty were thrown away. The company is not named. The account is the poster's alone and uncorroborated; no employer statement was retrieved.

In a public post to r/layoffs titled 'Laid off by claude', created on 21 October 2026, a person who describes themselves in a reply as a data engineer who also did reporting, AI and frontend work writes that executives are of the opinion that Claude can manage a data warehouse, custom tooling, support tickets, servers and new product features, and that they have said the poster's whole job is redundant because AI can do it all. The poster writes that they did not have the mental capacity to argue and accepted what they call 'the MSA', and that they feel numb and are unsure whether they want to stay in the tech industry. The employer, its location and the date of the layoff are not stated. The account is the poster's alone and uncorroborated; no employer statement was retrieved, and no source describes Claude actually taking over the work.

In a first-person essay published by the Oakland Review of Books on 2 October 2026, a former customer success manager at an education technology company writes that the company began a push at the end of 2025 to become 'AI-first', requiring staff to use AI tools, and that the author was later laid off. The author writes that an hour after the layoff the CEO held a seven-minute all-hands meeting to read a Claude-generated script saying leadership was 'replacing these roles with AI', and that the company let 40 people go, about 20 percent of its workforce, at the end of about six months of role eliminations. Staff who could not attend the HR meeting were told by email that their roles ended the next business day. The author also writes that sales were down and customers were unhappy, and that losing the job brought more relief than anything else, cushioned by savings and an employed partner. The company is not named, and the layoff is not dated beyond the essay's sequence. The account is uncorroborated.

In a public post to r/antiai created on 7 October 2026, a person who describes years of graphic design and website work for one client writes that the client had asked them to build a separate website for a new clinic and had sent over the material, and that on the day of the post the client texted to say not to bother because Claude had built the entire website, asking the poster to review it instead. The poster says the same client had earlier moved its graphic design to AI-generated material that copied the poster's design direction, leaving them only the website work, and that they feel sick over the cancellation. In a reply the poster says they will probably take a part-time job as a backup while keeping their remaining clients. The client is not named and did not respond; the account is the poster's alone and uncorroborated.

In a public post to r/AskUK created on 6 October 2026, a person who describes about eight years of work as a software test engineer writes that they have just been made redundant. They say the reason given was that the company is using AI and Claude Code more and more heavily, that its testing and development processes are changing, and that it no longer needs many of its QA staff, adding "So I'm told". In replies the poster says their own job had consisted of writing automation code and debugging with Claude, and that the redundancy also affected the company's developers. The employer, its location and the date of the redundancy are not stated. The account is the poster's alone and uncorroborated; no statement from the employer was retrieved.
