Dutch accounting firm's director says it dismissed its bookkeeper after AI took over his invoice-checking work
RTL Nieuws reported on 11 June 2026 that a five-person Dutch accounting firm had done without its bookkeeper since the start of the year because, its director said, AI had made his job unnecessary. Accountancy Vanmorgen reported the next day that the firm dismissed the bookkeeper after AI took over a large part of his work. The director told Accountancy Vanmorgen that RTL's description of AI processing bank data was wrong: invoice recognition had long been automated but needed the bookkeeper to check it, and AI had now taken over that check. The director says the bookkeeper was offered retraining within the firm and declined it, and that he has since found a job elsewhere. The bookkeeper's own account was not reported.
