Rimini: police report a minor to the juvenile prosecutor for allegedly making and spreading images, apparently created with AI, that attached a girl's face to a nude body and circulated in chats

The Squadra mobile of the Rimini police reported a minor to prosecutors, accused of making and spreading images manipulated with artificial intelligence. According to the Polizia di Stato, the investigation began after a report that images apparently created with AI were circulating in which a girl's face had been attached to a nude body without her knowledge. Corriere di Bologna reports that the minor was reported to the juvenile prosecutor's office in Bologna on 30 September 2026 for unlawful dissemination of AI-falsified content and child pornography, and that investigators say the image was sent to friends and acquaintances on WhatsApp. Neither the girl nor the accused is identified.

AI system as recorded: Images apparently created with artificial intelligence systems (Polizia di Stato) in which a girl's face was attached to a nude body; Corriere di Bologna says a chatbot-type image generator was used but names products only as examples, and the tool is not identified

What Happened

In a release published on 1 October 2026, the Polizia di Stato said that officers of the Squadra mobile of Rimini had reported a young minor accused of making and spreading images manipulated with artificial intelligence. The investigation began after a report about images, apparently created with artificial intelligence systems, in which a girl's face had been associated with a nude body without her knowing anything about it. Officers of the crimes-against-the-person section examined devices and digital data and reconstructed how the files were shared, taking account of the young age of those involved. San Marino RTV and Teleromagna, relaying the Questura's account, say the work was coordinated with the juvenile prosecutor's office. Corriere di Bologna adds that the minor was reported on 30 September for unlawful dissemination of AI-falsified content and for child pornography; that, according to the investigation, the minor cut the face out of a photograph of a girl of the same age known by sight and composed it with a generic nude using an AI image generator; and that the image was sent to friends and acquaintances on WhatsApp together with other artificially created images that circulated widely in chats. The Questura of Rimini warned young people and families that conduct some regard as jokes, retaliation or online mockery can amount to serious offences.

Reported harm

A girl's face was attached to a nude body in images, apparently made with AI, that circulated without her knowledge (Polizia di Stato); Corriere di Bologna reports that one such image was sent to friends and acquaintances on WhatsApp.

Outcome

Ongoing

The Squadra mobile of Rimini reported (denuncia) a minor; Corriere di Bologna says the report went to the juvenile prosecutor's office in Bologna on 30 September 2026 for the offence of unlawful dissemination of AI-falsified content (article 612-quater of the criminal code) and child pornography. No court proceeding or outcome is reported.

What remains unknown

  • Which AI tool was used and when the image was made.
  • How many images were made and whether other people were depicted in the other artificially created images.
  • How the girl was affected beyond the circulation of the image.
  • The prosecutor's decision and any juvenile court outcome.

What the evidence supports

AI involvement: reported. The Polizia di Stato release says the minor is accused of making and spreading images manipulated with artificial intelligence and describes the images as apparently created with AI systems. Corriere di Bologna quotes an account introduced only as 'stando a quanto riferito' that investigators checked how the AI tools used to manipulate the images were employed, and says a chatbot-type image generator was used, naming products only as examples. The images were not inspected. They depict the girl (depicted_or_impersonated).

Province of Catania, Sicily: a 58-year-old school assistant at a middle school was arrested for possessing a large quantity of child sexual abuse material; on his devices police found photographs of underage female students taken inside the school, some without their knowledge, altered with AI 'deep-nude' programs to show them naked beside his own image

Reports published on 14 March 2026, carrying a Postal Police account of an investigation coordinated by the Catania prosecutor's office, describe the arrest, in flagrante delicto, of a 58-year-old collaboratore scolastico (school assistant) at a secondary school (scuola media) in the province of Catania, on suspicion of possessing a large quantity of child sexual abuse material. The preliminary investigations judge validated the arrest and placed him under house arrest. The investigation began with a report by the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to the Postal Police's national centre in Rome, forwarded to Catania, whose cyber specialists identified the man; a search ordered by the prosecutor found images and videos including child victims and bestiality. Investigators also found on his devices digital photographs of underage female students taken inside the school where he worked, some without the girls' knowledge, which had been altered with artificial-intelligence programs found on the seized devices to make the minors appear naked ('deep-nude') and to place them beside the suspect's own image, as if photographed together. Analysis of the devices continued to establish whether the manipulated images were distributed online and whether there are further victims. The number of students depicted is not reported. No later development was found on 2026-09-22.

Henderson, Kentucky: police identified AI-generated nude images of two middle-school children on a device after a report that such images were being created and shown to other students at South Middle School; a juvenile was lodged at the juvenile detention centre on charges of distributing sexually explicit images without consent and possessing and distributing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor

Henderson Police said that on 'last Thursday' (17 September 2026) they received a report that AI-generated nude images of children were being created and shown to other students at South Middle School in Henderson, Kentucky. During the investigation officers found and identified AI-generated photographs of two minor victims on a digital device. A juvenile accused of sharing the images was lodged at the Juvenile Detention Center on three charge types: distribution of sexually explicit images without consent; two counts of possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over 12 and under 18; and distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor over 12 and under 18. The school said on Monday 21 September that it was aware of a situation involving a student allegedly misusing artificial intelligence and inappropriate images, that the police investigation was active and that it had remained in communication with the families involved. 14 News (WFIE) reported the case on 21 September; WKYT carried the same report. The tool is not named. The depicted children's exact ages are not reported, though the charge descriptors put them between 12 and 18. The accused is described as a South Middle School student; the accused's age and any relationship to the depicted children beyond attending the same school are not reported.

Jaú, São Paulo: eight 15-year-old ninth-grade boys at a private school are reported to have made fake nude images of a female classmate with artificial intelligence and shared them in a WhatsApp group; the school suspended them and the Civil Police are investigating a 15-year-old for dissemination of child pornography and defamation

In early September 2026 a private school in Jaú, in the interior of São Paulo state, identified the circulation of fake intimate images of a female classmate made with artificial intelligence and contacted the families. According to the police report described by the press, eight ninth-grade boys, all aged 15, kept a WhatsApp group in which they used digital programs to manipulate images of the student so that she appeared unclothed. The school suspended the eight and informed the girl's parents. The father of one of the boys checked his son's phone, found the files and took the boy and the phone to the police to register a report; the girl's parents also registered a police report. The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat said the Civil Police are investigating a 15-year-old for dissemination of child pornography and defamation that occurred on the morning of Thursday 3 September. The school said the content originated on a private platform outside the school environment and that it had adopted protective and welcoming measures for the student and opened an internal inquiry. The AI tool used is not named. The students are minors and are not named in any report.

Cookeville, Tennessee: two high-school students were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after the sheriff's office said they used an AI program to turn photographs, including those of female classmates, into sexually explicit images and posted them; the mother of one depicted girl says her daughter shut herself in her room and stopped talking to friends

On 31 August 2026 the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was told of possible sharing of sexually explicit images at Cookeville High School. Detectives found that two male teenage students had used an artificial-intelligence program to turn photographs obtained online, in some cases photographs of fellow female students, into sexually explicit images, and had shared them; explicit images already stored on one phone were also shared. Both juveniles were taken to the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, the other with two counts of each. The district attorney told NewsChannel 5 on 21 September that the two would be prosecuted in juvenile court. The mother of one of the depicted girls told the station the episode was very hard on her daughter, who had made no naked photographs herself, locked herself in her room and would not talk to her, to anybody or to her friends. The sheriff's-office account and the school system's statement were carried by WZTV, WSMV and 3B Media News on 1-2 September; NewsChannel 5 added its own interviews with the sheriff, the district attorney and the mother on 21 September. The tool is not named. The juveniles are not named in any report.
