Sevilla court: three men convicted of making AI nude images of three former schoolmates from Instagram photos and sharing them; nine months, firm 1 Oct 2026
A judge of the criminal section of the Tribunal de Instancia de Sevilla convicted three men on 1 October 2026, by a conformity agreement, of three offences against moral integrity with the gender aggravating factor. The court found proven that the three, acting with a minor, took photographs from the open Instagram profiles of three young women who had been their schoolmates, manipulated them with an AI application on Telegram to simulate, with great realism, the women's fully naked bodies, and shared the files in a WhatsApp group and a Discord group, after which they spread further; an unidentified person sent the manipulated images of all three to one of the women's Instagram profiles at about 00:30 on 10 September 2023. Each man received nine months in prison, suspended for two years on condition of no new offence, a ban on Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram and Discord for three years and nine months and a sex-education programme; they paid the moral damages fixed by the court in full. The judiciary's Andalusian communication office published the sentence on 8 October 2026 and described it as the first conviction in Sevilla for this use of AI. The account rests on that official communication and on press reports relaying it; the judgment itself was not inspected.

AI system as recorded: AI application on Telegram, not named, used according to the court's proven facts to manipulate Instagram photographs of three young women so that the images simulated their fully naked bodies
What Happened
The images. According to the proven facts recorded in the sentence and summarised by the judiciary's communication office, the three convicted men, acting in concert with a minor, decided to obtain images from the Instagram profiles of three young women who had been their schoolmates and whose posts were open to the public. They manipulated those images with an AI application on Telegram to obtain images that simulated, with great realism, the fully naked bodies of the three women. The application is not named. The men shared the files among themselves and with the minor through a WhatsApp group and a Discord group created for that purpose and then spread them further; the court recorded that the reach of the forwarding chains is unknown. At about 00:30 on 10 September 2023 an unidentified person sent the manipulated images of the three women from an Instagram profile to the profile of one of them.
The judgment. On 1 October 2026 the judge of post 15 of the criminal section of the Tribunal de Instancia de Sevilla convicted the three men, after a conformity agreement reached the same day between the Sevilla cybercrime prosecutor, the private prosecution and the defences, of three offences against moral integrity with the gender aggravating factor of article 22.4 of the Penal Code. The judge found that they acted with a clear intent to mock, aware of the risk to the women's dignity, and projected what the sentence calls a supposed male supremacy that objectifies women; this contempt based on gender, the judge wrote, goes beyond the attack on their privacy and dignity. Each man was sentenced to nine months in prison and banned from Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram and Discord for three years and nine months. The prison terms were suspended for two years because the men have no criminal record, the term is under two years and they paid the civil liability in full; the suspension is conditional on no new offence, on the app ban and on completing a sex-education programme. The court also applied the mitigating factors of repairing the damage (the full amounts fixed for moral damage were deposited) and of confession, noting that the men admitted the facts from their first police statements. The sentence is firm.
What is not reported. The sources do not say where the acts took place, when the images were created, how many people received them beyond the groups, or how the women learned of them beyond the 10 September 2023 message to one of them. The women's ages at the time are not stated. The judgment itself was not inspected; the account rests on the judiciary's official communication of 8 October 2026 and on press reports that relay it (EFE via Público, El Periódico de Aragón citing El Correo de Andalucía, and Moncloa.com).
Reported harm
The court found proven that realistic AI-made nude images of three young women, built from their public Instagram photographs, were shared in WhatsApp and Discord groups, spread further with unknown reach, and sent to one of the women's own Instagram profile on 10 September 2023; the court fixed moral damages, which the convicted men paid in full, and convicted them of offences against the women's moral integrity.
Outcome
ResolvedSentence of 1 October 2026 by the judge of post 15 of the criminal section of the Tribunal de Instancia de Sevilla, reached by conformity agreement between the Sevilla cybercrime prosecutor, the private prosecution and the defences, and firm (no appeal): nine months in prison for each of the three men for three offences against moral integrity with the gender aggravating factor (art. 22.4 Penal Code), a ban on accessing Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram and Discord for three years and nine months, suspension of the prison term for two years conditional on committing no offence, keeping the app ban and completing a sex-education programme. The court applied the qualified mitigating factor of repairing the damage (the men paid the full civil liability fixed for moral damage) and the analogous mitigating factor of confession. The minor who took part is mentioned in the proven facts and is not covered by this sentence.
What remains unknown
- Where the images were made and shared and where the three women live; the sources name only the sentencing court, so the event and affected-person countries are left unknown.
- When the images were created and how widely they spread; the court recorded that the reach of the forwarding chains is unknown, and the 10 September 2023 message to one woman is the only dated distribution.
- The AI application used (only described as an AI application on Telegram), the ages of the three women at the time, and how the women experienced the images beyond the moral damages the court fixed.
- The amounts of civil liability paid and what happened to the minor who took part; the official communication states neither.
- Whether this is the first such conviction in Spain: the official release says first in Sevilla, and the judgment itself was not inspected.
What the evidence supports
AI involvement: supported. The judiciary's Andalusian communication office, publishing the sentence of 1 October 2026, states that the court found proven that the three men manipulated the women's Instagram photographs with an AI application on Telegram to obtain images that simulated, with great realism, their fully naked bodies, and that these files were shared in WhatsApp and Discord groups and sent to one of the women. The AI-generated nude images are the harm itself: they depict the three women (depicted_or_impersonated), their distribution is the conduct the court punished, and the court fixed moral damages for it. The application is not named, the judgment text was not inspected, and the account rests on the official communication and press reports relaying it.

East Jakarta: police confirm a grade-9 student at a state junior high school edited several female schoolmates' photographs with AI into indecent images that circulated as WhatsApp stickers; a social-media post said about 200 images were sold; the student was later beaten by schoolmates angry at the images (police statements differ on whether the depicted students or their friends did so) and both matters are under police investigation (Kompas, ANTARA, detik, VIVA, Media Indonesia, 23-24 September 2026)
On 23 September 2026 the spokesperson of the East Jakarta metropolitan police (Polres Metro Jakarta Timur) confirmed to reporters that a grade-9 student at a state junior high school in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, had edited photographs of several female schoolmates using artificial intelligence so that they appeared indecent, and that the edited images had been made into WhatsApp stickers; the police women-and-children protection unit is investigating. The case surfaced through a post on Threads which said about 200 edited photographs had been produced and sold to others; Kompas.com noted on 24 September that the sale allegation still rested only on that post, VIVA reported that police were still checking the claim that the images had been sold, and ANTARA reported on 23 September that police were still establishing the editing method, the recipients and the number of depicted students. As of 24 September the depicted students had not filed a report (detik and VIVA date the spokesperson's telephone remarks 'Kamis (22/9/2026)', a date that is internally inconsistent) and police appealed to them to do so. According to the parents' account relayed by police, on 15 and 16 September several people took the student who made the images to an empty house and then to a reservoir in Kayu Putih, punched him on the nose, ears and head, kicked his chest and stomach and threatened him with a bladed weapon; police attribute the beating to friends of the depicted students (ANTARA, detik, VIVA), while Kompas.com's 23 September report quotes the same spokesperson as saying the depicted students themselves beat him; he filed an assault report, which police are handling alongside the image case, and the school has held mediation with the students' parents. No student or school is named in the reports.
Jaú, São Paulo: eight 15-year-old ninth-grade boys at a private school are reported to have made fake nude images of a female classmate with artificial intelligence and shared them in a WhatsApp group; the school suspended them and the Civil Police are investigating a 15-year-old for dissemination of child pornography and defamation
In early September 2026 a private school in Jaú, in the interior of São Paulo state, identified the circulation of fake intimate images of a female classmate made with artificial intelligence and contacted the families. According to the police report described by the press, eight ninth-grade boys, all aged 15, kept a WhatsApp group in which they used digital programs to manipulate images of the student so that she appeared unclothed. The school suspended the eight and informed the girl's parents. The father of one of the boys checked his son's phone, found the files and took the boy and the phone to the police to register a report; the girl's parents also registered a police report. The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat said the Civil Police are investigating a 15-year-old for dissemination of child pornography and defamation that occurred on the morning of Thursday 3 September. The school said the content originated on a private platform outside the school environment and that it had adopted protective and welcoming measures for the student and opened an internal inquiry. The AI tool used is not named. The students are minors and are not named in any report.
Cookeville, Tennessee: two high-school students were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor after the sheriff's office said they used an AI program to turn photographs, including those of female classmates, into sexually explicit images and posted them; the mother of one depicted girl says her daughter shut herself in her room and stopped talking to friends
On 31 August 2026 the Putnam County Sheriff's Office was told of possible sharing of sexually explicit images at Cookeville High School. Detectives found that two male teenage students had used an artificial-intelligence program to turn photographs obtained online, in some cases photographs of fellow female students, into sexually explicit images, and had shared them; explicit images already stored on one phone were also shared. Both juveniles were taken to the Putnam County Juvenile Detention Center. One was charged with one count each of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, the other with two counts of each. The district attorney told NewsChannel 5 on 21 September that the two would be prosecuted in juvenile court. The mother of one of the depicted girls told the station the episode was very hard on her daughter, who had made no naked photographs herself, locked herself in her room and would not talk to her, to anybody or to her friends. The sheriff's-office account and the school system's statement were carried by WZTV, WSMV and 3B Media News on 1-2 September; NewsChannel 5 added its own interviews with the sheriff, the district attorney and the mother on 21 September. The tool is not named. The juveniles are not named in any report.
